They’re run by buffoons

Is this is reference to not bringing back Kane? I’ve liked the concept of the idea, a skilled player that can provide Bedard an outlet and scoring partner, signing a relatively short term deal for maybe a little more than he’s worth. It would help sell tickets and hype.

but in practice? Do you really want Bedard paired with a small defensively challenged forward? Can CB really benefit from having Kane on his line? If Kane goes to 2nd line who exactly is he helping with his style of play?

And then the off ice stuff. By all accounts, CB is a much different person than PK was as a kid. He’s not a hard drinking party animal punching cabbies and allegedly committing the worst crimes.

given the effort they’ve made moving on from sexual assault issues, is there really enough upside in PK’s current abilities to deal with the downside?

more because of the lack of any support for Bedard, but also not seriously considering Kane. While he's a shell of his former self, Kane had a good season this past year and appears to have plenty left to become the top US born scorer of all time. What he knows about hockey would be valuable to Bedard, and while he was a punk when he was younger, he's certainly grown past it. And as for the sexual assault/rape rumors, I thought it was determined that he DIDNT commit those acts? Maybe I heard incorrectly, but thats what I thought I remember happening.

I haven't seen a Jones comp. There's a reason he's the #1 defenseman in the draft.

I've seen more questions about Demidov than Levshunov. Pronman is probably the low man on him, but he's not the only one that questions whether Demidov's skating will limit his ceiling.

I don't follow the Hawks prospects closely enough.  How are they with blue line prospects?  Seems like most of the guys I hear people excited about are wingers.  Don't get me wrong the Hawks are not in a position to do anything but choose BPA at number 2, but would be nice to have an exciting defenseman in the system if that's the route they go.

jones was the number 1 d-man in his draft too. it's not really an insult, seth jones is pretty good without the contract

demidov is riskier, but he has the much higher ceiling, from what i've read.

They have a lot of D depth, but are lacking in high end talent. They can use a top pairing D man especially when you think about 3-4 years from now when Jones will be a 3rd pairing guy eating up cap space.

But they can also use high end forward help since they are more or less stacked with middle six guys.

Id be happy with either selection

Any explanation for why Demidov is listed 3 inches under his measured height?

Nobody in the west has seen a Russian in person for two years and 18 year old boys grow.

Devils got their goaltender so we can forget about fooling them into taking Mrázek.

It's so weird to me that the NHL doesn't freeze transactions during the playoffs like every other sport. The Stanley Cup Finals are happening and other teams are just operating like it's already the off season

I don’t mind using cap space to get another 2nd round pick. But at some point they have to acquire a good player. There is no way they will build a championship team with just draft picks

Posted (edited)

edit- The NTC was waived and what was reported as a 2025 2nd is now listed as a 2027 2nd. So, they still have 12 picks in the first two rounds of the next three drafts. 5 firsts and 7 seconds. And they are now loading up on extra picks for 2027.

————

So a 2nd round pick in 2025 would leave them with:

2024 - Two 1s, Two 2s, Two 3s

2025 - Two 1s, Three 2s, One 3

2026 - One 1, Three 2s, One 3.

Thats 13 picks in the top two rounds for next three years. That’s too many picks. You have to package some of them and get a difference maker. They’ve already made one somewhat frivolous deal, dealing quantity for marginal quality improvement. You’re going to get stuck not maximizing the value of draft picks eventually if you keep that plethora.

The final athletic mock has Blackhawks taking Levshunov over Demidov, but Demidov falling to Calgary at 9.

Then at 18(with Eiserman going one pick later):

18. Chicago Blackhawks: Jett Luchanko, C, Guelph (OHL)

It feels almost likely at this point that Luchanko is going in the top 20. The league loves his two-way game, his skating and his compete. He fits the profile of the type of forward Chicago has targeted and has that profile in spades. I think Jiricek or either of the Norwegian players fit here too if they make it to 18.
