Virtually every take I’ve seen is that it’s a slap on the wrist

https://thescom/big-ten/michigan-wolverines/everyone-has-same-reaction-to-ncaas-punishment-for-michigan

All of the OSU and MSU fans have me convinced that Michigan is getting their National Title stripped and will probably have to have their players(none of whom will be allowed to have a scholarship) clean up all the opposing B1G stadiums after the games are over.

I did see that NCAA has finally allowed helmet speakers.  Michigan again leaving a lasting legacy on CFB

Apropos of nothing, that officially gives USC 8 Heisman Trophies, which breaks their tie with Notre Dame and Ohio State for the most all-time.

This seems like pretty big news that will once again completely reshape the college landscape:

Sometimes I wonder if the people running college sports had actually treated it like an amateur enterprise - not looting other conferences for no reason other than TV money, not expanding the postseason left and right for no reason other than TV money, not paying administrators and coaches ludicrous amounts of money, etc - if the courts would've let them keep pretending it was an amateur enterprise, or if all of this would've happened anyway.

Greed appears to be a fundamental behavioral characteristic of humanity, if not of individual humans.

Very interesting that they aren't re-seeding the playoffs after each round. Going true March Madness style, where a busted bracket might make things easier for lower seeded teams.

For example, the #1 overall seed gets a first round bye, then plays the winner of 8 vs. 9, while the #4 overall seed also gets a first round bye, then plays the winner of 5 vs. 12. If #12 upsets #5, then the 4 seed gets to play an "easier" game in the next round than the #1 seed

In a tournament where the top 4 seeds are very unlikely to be the best 4 teams (because only conference champs get them), reseeding doesn't make much sense.

The two minute warning, which is one of the dumbest rules in the NFL, has made its way to NCAA football.

Why?

The stated reason is that with the clock rules changing last year to only stop after first downs inside of two minutes left in the half, the 'warning' will make it easier for the people keeping the clock to make the change.

The powers that be have said there will be no extra commercial breaks from the institution of the rule, but even if that's true this year, it won't be soon.

is it a 12 team playoff this year?

Yes. The byes will go to the Power 4 conference champs (that's not codified, but that's how it will work in practice), followed by 5-12 being seeded via the final CFP rankings. First round games on campus (12/20-12/21), quarterfinals in bowls (12/31-1/1), semifinals in bowls (1/9-10) and championship in Atlanta (1/20).

I'm guessing that AT LEAST half of the field will be SEC/Big 10 teams

I think that might be conservative. I don't think the ACC or Big 12 will get more than one at large team each except under unusual circumstances. But then I'm one that thinks the Florida State snub last year was a signal of how teams that aren't playing SEC or B1G schedules will be treated from now on.
