it's not like the Cubs needed another top of the rotation pitcher, they'll just throw another 91mph fastball firing #5 on the mound and that golden defense will take care of everything else.

Yeah, I'll admit being a bit frustrated on the lack of velocity in the rotation. Glasnow was tailor made for the Cubs lack of that.

Sigh. This offseason has been a bunch of disappointments.

Like, I want to believe the Cubs aren't stupid enough to not take a division that is absolutely theirs to take, but all signs point to that they are that stupid.

Meh his arm is held together by string and duct tape. Not really mad about this one.

You know of any other top of the rotation arms for 2024 that aren't going to require huge prospect hauls or huge contracts?

I'm trying to tell myself that there's something out there that I'm not seeing. That the reason for the silence on the Cubs end is because there's a really fun move that we don't know about. That there's a thing out there that's going to lynch pin all of this and we'll end up going "oh wow!".

But then there's another voice that's pretty defeated laughing at that voice. And that one's starting to win.

The extension is something I agree with, I wouldn't be super excited about that. With that said, the trade itself? The Cubs should have been in on that. I'll be bummed about missing on Glasnow the 1 year guy.

I'm finding it funny that what was my pessimistic offseason take a month+ ago was Glasnow, Hoskins, Candy and a pen arm. At this point, that's sounding rather optimistic.

Surely this takes the Dodgers out of the Yamamoto race... r-right?

Nope. Been reported this kind of a move wouldn't stop them.

Remember when Hoyer said it wasn't good to win the offseason? The Dodgers are winning the offseason and I have to say, I'm really jealous. I'd like to win the offseason like this.

Frankly, I’m a little confused why the Dodgers want to extend Glasnow given his health history.

Yeah the extension is pretty perplexing. Might be a combination of knowing they have the depth to baby him (this is more for the playoffs than, say, May) and that he's pretty fresh off TJS and likely has a handful of years (rates of reinjury usually take 6-7 years based on more recent studies) before they truly need to worry about another.

I’m so tired of the Cubs letting me down year after year lately. It’s been so boring. Okay Swanson was cool. Sure. Fine player. But come on now… I’m starting to think we will never act like a major market team and flex our muscles. Who is the problem? Jed? Ricketts? Is Jed scared of his own shadow? Scared to give out a big contract? Scared to make a power move like the Dodgers just did with Glasnow because he might get hurt again and it will financially cripple the team from spending? Seriously act like a big market team and IF he did get hurt, just throw some more money at somebody else that’s healthy. I guess we will trade for a declining Beiber (maybe) and sign Hoskins and party in the streets!

sorry I’m admittedly a little emotional. Just kind of fed up with this Cubs team. There’s just nothing left that really moves the needle. Bellinger I guess, but I’m concerned whether or not he’s truly who he’s was in 2023 moving forward.

Wouldn't an extension allow them to lower his LT number? Pretty sure it's $25M since it's all he has left on his contract... an "extension" that adds a couple years at lower rates with an opt-out/mutual option would spread out the $ and lower the LT hit, right?

This guy contracts. Good thought.

Yes, but I severely doubt Glasnow is going to take much less than 25M a year.

Might not have to. Work in a mutual option for year 2 and a hefty buyout.
