While it wasn't the same situation given the amount of time in both games, the Packers did this in week 2 against the Saints.  They were down 17-3 in the 4th with 7 min left. They scored and went for 2 (converting).  Made the score 17-11.  They got the ball back after a defensive stop (easier than recovering an onside kick) and scored again to make it 18-17. And that ended up being the final score.

The logic here is try for two on the first touchdown, if you get it you win with an XP on the second TD. If you don't you convert, you retain the ability to go for two on the second to tie.

Going for 2 down 10 makes no sense to me, unless you saw the Houston game where their kicker got hurt and was it a RB or S kicking for them?

It's the same concept.  If you get the 2, a field goal wins the game.  If you don't make it, you know you need a TD to win.

If you believe that your chances of making the 2 and your chances of winning in OT if you make it there are roughly equivalent, then you should go for 2.  Because if you lose in OT you just lose.  While if you miss the 2 you can adjust your strategy and potentially still win.  That's why the math favors going for 2 in that scenario.

The Year of the Backup QB rages on

Get used to it. As college and pro football both keep adding more games to their seasons, more and more titles are going to be decided by who gets hurt and when.
