The Cubs are in third place, only three games under .500, and looking to sweep the Pirates again in a very early Wednesday start.

Hendricks hasn't been missing bats - even by his standards - but he has been effective.

Opposing him for the Pirates is the 54-year-old Dick Mountain.

Here’s hoping this upcoming London trip doesn’t throw cold water on their hot streak

Oh yeah, that's rather ill-timed for the Cubs. A couple of days off right as they're rolling, then a couple of games on a different continent.

Amaya back in the lineup is nice to see.  Although now it is Swanson we have to worry about.  Hopefully the 3 days off will be enough for him to heal up and get back in the lineup against the Cardinals.

Good thing they are only playing the last place Cardinals

Can't believe this is only Rich Hill's 5th career regular season start against the Cubs....feels like he's started more than that, but does also have 2 postseason starts against the Cubs as well.

In those 8 games (7 starts, 1 relief appearance), he has a 1.98 ERA against the Cubs.  Guess I'm saying its a good thing the Cubs have managed to get 3 runs off him so far

The radio guys mentioned the other day that Rich Hill is the oldest active MLB player and it made me wonder what kind of odds you could have gotten back in 2007 or so that that would ever be the case. Amazing longevity.

Kind of a crazy send by Harris there but the throw was way high and Mancini gets in to make it 5-1.

Hendricks live season ERA after the 6th: 2.62.  We still certain the Cubs don't pick up his option?

Plenty of time to see how things play out. Here are his 2023 numbers going into today:

ERA: 2.86
xERA: 4.53
FIP: 3.35
xFIP: 4.96

Ross letting Kyle pitch to failure.

He was cruising coming into the inning and had a low pitch count.  gave up a well placed ground ball single and a HBP.  I was ok with letting him try to get the next batter.

WTF was that Mancini?  Bases loaded 2 outs, he fields a ground ball and as he's running he bobbles the ball then tries to flip it to Leiter for the out.  Leiter collides with the runner and drops the ball, everyone is safe.  Net result:

Bases still loaded, 5 run lead down to 3, possibly injured key relief pitcher
