some of you guys are really underrating how much fun this place was in its hey day or even early post-hey day. If they bring more people here it will be awesome

Counterpoint: the reasons it was awesome had nothing to do with the Cubs or baseball and everything to do with the Social forum

I don't know. Game threads used to actually worth browsing at one point.

I've been a devout poster on the Cubs prosportsdaily forum for damn near 20 years and I know there's some posters here that used to post there and a few that still do. There was a mass exodus after a prominent poster was banned over something really ridiculous and that is a dark day in that forum's history because we lost a lot of great members.

When I first heard about this place in 2016 and started lurking I was really blown away at the quality and quantity of posts. Eventually I started posting and I have to say that it is a tough nut to crack for a new user. You guys have a tightknit community and I really didn't feel all that welcome for a while, but I wanted to stick around because I really enjoyed the content, and, admittedly, I made a lot of dumb posts and complained too much about little things the Cubs players did that I didn't like while they were the closest thing to a juggernaut that they would ever be in my lifetime. Still, there were times where I definitely felt like you guys really didn't want any new members, although I may have just put my foot in my mouth a little too often. Maybe I'm too sensitive as well.

I think this is a really great place. I am also curious to see how the new posters are treated. I believe this can be a great thing for the site and you guys have put in a lot of your time to keep this place active and interesting, so I hope that you are rewarded with even more great content; just might want to ease up on the hazing slightly IDK.

Totally; this place was even more fun when there was a ton of traffic. You end up with a little something for everyone.

It’s the internet, you should not feel welcome

I can be an horsefeathers, so maybe ignore me, but this seems like the official death of whatever NSBB has been for the last 20 years. I honestly don’t think anyone who regularly visits here wants this site to grow, or cares about making it the largest Cubs related anything. A large part (most?) of the value is in the smaller and tighter community, which will be diluted by this change. I’m not trying to be a gatekeeper either, I just appreciate that a large portion of the posts on the site at this point are high value, which makes it a superior option to alternatives.

Oh well, hopefully you can prove me wrong and I will be rooting for you to, but if not, it’s been great to be part of this site for so long, and it really helped expand and grow my knowledge and love of baseball. Thanks to all the real ones.

Also, this post will be a good test of how much freedom people will have under new management to express their reasonable opinions.

As a counterpoint, I'll bring up that this site's traffic has been consistently declining for a few years. Long-term posters inevitably leave and if they're not being replaced (which they haven't been for a few years now), a forum can become a ghost town.

People WANT high quality commentary. It has been our calling card for years on Twins Daily and was the case for 20 years on Brewer Fan. The same has carried over to Brewer Fanatic, we're just giving good smart posters an option they may not have known about before. If you're irritated by the likes of Twitter and Facebook commentary, other people are, too... we try to be a place that attracts those people and bring them into the fold.

We also don't hesitate to give Twitter bros the boot because we don't want to hear their thoughts any more than you do.

I agree that the site has been declining in traffic, its basically become a group of people who know each other as well as anonymous internet people can know each other. I know IMB's an ass and I love him for it. I know David occasionally goes silent as he needs downtime to upgrade his RAM every so often. I know Mojo's an ass and I love him for it. I know why the game thread forum is named after Fred Hornkol. I know that goony's an ass and I love him for it. I know derwood is good for a dumb comment every so often because he doesn't read before he posts, but know I can give him horsefeathers and he'll take it in good spirits because he's a good dude at heart. I know that I don't have to look at minor league box scores because every morning Raisin will neatly summarize everything that happened the night before.

I'm not against what you are doing at all, but some of that close knit core poster/inside joke stuff that makes this essentially my internet home page is what I worry we may lose if the board grows too much. I don't even know how much I care about discussing the Cubs anymore, I just like chatting with the same people I've chatted with for 20 years.

But I am looking forward to seeing some improvements to the site, and hopefully not having to panic every time the site briefly goes down wondering if this is it for the forum. I'm open to seeing where this takes us. Good luck!

honestly raisin's daily minor league posts and the consistency with which he does them is one of the most impressive things going here lol

i wish i could achieve that sort of daily consistency with literally almost any aspect of my life. the only thing i do that often is shower and brush my teeth.

idgi and i'm not reading any of it, but obviously i have to post anyway. So we're all twins fans now? I'm down.

Have you SEEN the Twins postseason record lately? I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I don’t know any of you well enough to hate you that much.

Someone skimped on the due diligence. I'm a miserable floor boner who delights in suffering.

And if we can somehow combine more traffic with a server that doesn't choke every time something notable happens, Mushroom Kingdom here we come!

The sports editor, the main editor, or are you thinking of Katie Pizza?

I don't even remember the actual editors' names. I just remember they both hated me. Most of my bosses forever have hated me because of what I now know is the autistic hyperfixation/burnout cycle. It's a little like manic-depressive. I get hyperfixated on my career, I do amazing work, give great interviews, talk myself into new and better jobs. A few months later I'm burnt out, the hyperfixation disappears, and I can literally barely drag myself in every day to click around on the computer screen and retype some press releases to avoid getting fired immediately.

I always thought there was a vibe between me and Katie Pizza, but I was married at the time and would never press the issue. A few years later my then-wife cheated with a work buddy and I feel like I should get a re-do on that one.

She had a boyfriend at the time too that she had met on World of Warcraft and then IRL. So she was definitely the type to be into me.
