I know I'm in the minority here, but I really like using Tapatalk to browse the forums on my mobile device(s). Any thoughts on whether you will be able to preserve Tapatalk support with whatever new forum software is going to be used?

Probably not, unfortunately, but I will look into it at some point. The upside here is that our mobile experience on the new platform is pretty good, better than what NSBB has right now.

Uh, not for non-sports stuff. There's "Social" and "Rants."

fair. the off topic stuff was what i was mainly thinking of as the place for some megathreads. i guess it depends on how granular you would want to get with that stuff and how much the traffic does or doesn't warrant it.

I'm kinda with you; I don't mind the megathreads, but would prefer more subforums. Like, one for politics, movies, music, food, etc.. Having a broader off topic forum still makes sense, and rants is fine.

I think a "serious topics" forum is a decent idea, too.

I know I'm biased, but I think the non-sports posters/topics have been doing a LOT of the legwork in keeping this place from being a ghost town.

I know some of it comes down to moderation effort from volunteer mods, but I think social has always had a great beat to it. To borrow the movie or TV example, when Game if Thrones was on its live run, we busted out a separate thread for it. Or MCU and Star Wars have kept separate threads from Movie thread. Don't need a whole subforum.

Sports/socual sub forums have stayed active and the frequency of talk between different topics has stayed fresh, without pushing activity off page 1 too quickly. There is no need to get so granual with OT type sub forums IMO.

Perhaps by total accident, but those sub forums are keeping activity up because the rhythm to topic frequency actually makes sense and are accessible.

The problem with all the subforums it that you end up with a lot of inactive subforums. I would rather have broader forum categories with the activity consolidated.

I agree, and that's why I stuck with pretty broad suggestions. Keep it as basic as the type of stuff I listed.

Yeah, I know that is usually the case, and I'm sure the mobile UI is much better now. The thing that is lost for me is multi-tasking. I don't know how many times I have started typing a post in a mobile browser, ended up getting distracted and searched for something else or hit a link that opened in my Chrome session, and lost everything I was typing. Maybe that's just me not knowing how to properly multi-task in Chrome on my phone, but Tapatalk makes it so much easier since I can browse and post in the forum independently of any web browser activity.

The new system does a pretty good job of saving drafts as you type. It's not 100% but seems to work most of the time. If you return to the same topic and try to type again, the editor displays where you stopped typing last time.

Just some friendly advice, keeping Fred's name on the Game Threads Forum is sacrosanct. Reshuffling is fine otherwise.

Tim gave me the run down on that name and it's definitely staying for obvious reasons.

Also on the topic of Game Threads, as this is the first forum you've managed with a team who has won a World Series since the advent of the internet, leaving the Game 7 thread as a sticky is absolutely necessary.

My apologies if someone already asked this, but how easy will it be to change my username after the cutover?

We can set permissions for this based on usergroup. It's a conversation we'll have post-launch, just remind me about it. In the past, we've locked down usernames for most users with long time users having the ability to change it on their own.

, I *do not* mean dark humor, I mean racism and general awfulness that is all too prevalent in our society.

Don't plan on buying any Cardinals fans message boards in the future.

Nah its fine, buy GatewayRedbirds as long as you agree to destroy them if we do extra good at bringing in ad revenue. They created their forum and modeled it after ours, so I feel the need to be part of their destruction as well.

only if you change it to assbass

I mean surely Brock is just smart enough to insult the Cardinals to endear himself to us, but I'll accept that blatant ass kissing as genuine. I approve of our new corporate overlords.

I'm from Wisconsin and been a Brewers fan for a very long time. They were actually my first team before I moved to MN and started following the Twins.

My dislike of the Cardinals is quite embedded; even when I was away from the midwest for a long time (lived in SoCal for 17 years), their fanbase is enough to make any reasonable human want to throw up.

I registered over there a couple of years ago and they literally banned me minutes after I had created my account but before I actually posted anything.

I have no love for them.

I can't remember the name of my grb account from the offseason when I decided I wanted to be a cardinals fan, but it's probably still there

I’ll see if I can log into my “Jim Hendry’s Chins” account and find you.

To be fair, that name sounds totally made up and kinda sus, in terms of a username.

Fair enough but I used an ancient screen name there, as I do most places (rocketpig).

So when you were posting here as rocketpig, was that a test run on the response for new members?

Kind of, I guess? I just wanted to get a feel for the community and that's easier to do if I'm registered and commenting. And I created that account quite some time ago, like maybe over a year ago?
