I'm 98% sure TCU is in. Assuming Michigan and Georgia both win:

1. Georgia

2. Michigan

3. TCU

4. Ohio st.

I think this is it, unless only Georgia losses. Then Michigan would go to 1 and OSU would jump TCU

Nobody is beating Georgia this year.

Nobody

Yeah, and this is a team that’s lost most of their D to the NFL after last year. Kirby has recreated the BAMA model.

IF the committee really wants to avoid a rematch they can easily pit UM and TCU together without it being a stretch regardless how the rest of the games go. Michigan and UGA are locked into a top 2 ranking and TCU and OSU will be some order of 3-4.

That’s if they want to avoid the rematch. The same logic applies if they want to put OSU and UM together

Yeah, TCU losing in OT means it's easy to keep them at No. 3 assuming Georgia doesn't blow this lead. And even if the rest of this game and whatever Michigan does to Purdue is justification to move Michigan to 1, then they'll just drop TCU to 4.

I have to admit, watching the students swarm the field at Tulane was the first time I’ve shed a tear watching sports since the 2016 Cubs. On to the effing Cotton Bowl (allegedly).

Hot take: Edwards is probably a better RB anyway. Of course, you'd love to have both

that's indeed a scorching hot take, PFF had Corum rated best player in the country and one of their highest scores ever

I'm stilled pissed the Big Ten West' best team, the Illini, aren't playing Michigan today. By no means am I thinking the Illini would have won, I do believe they'd have a better showing than this Purdue team. O'Connell going to throw a minimum of two interceptions, there's an excellent chance this game is going to over by halftime.

Illinois lost at home to Purdue.

Well aware of that, BS interface call on a Witherspoon pick, Purdue holding on nearly every down, they made some plays. However, they may not have won without the benefit of some inconsistent and bad officiating.

I can not wait to see Deion at Colorado.

Very interested to see how that goes. NIL and the transfer portal can turn around a program quickly.

Fox is giving Saban a prime time lobbying session to try to get Alabama in to the playoff.

That's embarrassing, but in 2 years it's gonna be the coaches of 9-3 teams doing it so we might as well just get used to people doing this

When they expand the playoffs they have to make it more objective somehow. Like the winners of the big 5 conferences + 2nd place for those conferences, +2 wildcards. I don't know how to determine the wildcards. They need to try and force ND into a conference. If they were in the ACC, they'd probably make it 7 out of 10 years.

2nd place being whoever loses the conf champ or the highest ranked left in each?

Kind of crazy how good of a job Sonny Dykes has done with TCU. First year, 5-7 team, non-premier program not full of 5 stars. Came in and led them to their first CFP appearance.

Why have championship games, then, if both teams are automatically in?

Winning conference will of course still be a big deal, but takes away a lot of the potential drama of championship week for the average fans who's watching.

Sans one of the group of 5 teams blowing it, basically thr playoff slate would be locked up before conference championships. I guess just seeding/byes would be in play?

No thanks. I already hate that a team like this year's Purdue can win one game at the right time and get a top-4 seed. We don't need to then let them, North Carolina and LSU (or the countless others over the years) just because they won their division.

They're going to let the 5 conference winners plus the Group of 5 team. Just take the next 6 best teams.

Posted
At least 4 of the next best 6 teams will probably be pretty clear most years - in fact, a lot of the time what CubinNY is talking about will likely come to pass. Every conference that will be supplying CFP teams will have dumped divisions before expansion except for 1 more year of the SEC East/West split prior to Texas and OU joining. It'll be 1 vs 2 with only seeding on the line in most cases.

Tulane is playing USC in the Cotton Bowl. Holy freaking smokes!

Anyone seen the Trojans play this season? I have to think it’s a bad matchup with their skill positions talent, but the Wave pass rush has been pretty stout so far.
