Not all needs are equally important

You still need to judge talent equally. In our division, if you don't have a strong secondary you will get eaten alive by both GB and MN. It wasn't stupid to draft DB-DB, but to not find adequate prospects for the WR position has been a miss. I'm holding out hope for Harry, but he might still become Kevin White

We get eaten alive by GB when we have a strong secondary too.

Let's be the team that the rest of the division needs a strong secondary against for once

Lol wut

The last time we had a decent secondary it was lead by Peanut Tillman, before that Mike Brown. We get eaten alive against GB a lot because our secondary is usually...not great

Peanut Tillman went 10-16 against the Packers in his career.

But we keep chasing that defensive high

Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller, Adrian Amos, and Prince Amukamara would like words.

I was so focused on the QB at that time, I forgot about them. They were fun too

2017 team is irrelevant bc it was awful. The 2018 team should've been 2-0 against them but they choked and least some of that was on the defense so whatever. Rodgers hopped up on pain killers made one of the best throws I've ever seen but they never should've been in that position.

So 2017 was awful despite having an acknowledged good defensive backs. And 2018 did well but ultimately lost to a team with an elite offensive weapon, which trumped our DBs.

Yep. That's kinda my point.

Can't wait to have a great secondary in 2023

I have to think, after the bye week, there's got to someone else starting at C in New England. I do not know the size of the impact but, I suspect the C not getting blown up 9 out 10 plays will lead to a more positive result. If these coaches are a step up from the last, we'll see some changes, benching Pettis, Smith-Marsette and Mustipher are a few that quickly come to mind, I'd probably also, remove Jones Jr. as the punt returner.

When I look at the Giants success coming from a similarly desolate situation, it’s really hard to just give Poles a pass for his offseason and to look kindly on the Eberflus hiring. As a fan I’m looking for a leadership change that pays dividends quickly, not a project that has to be given time to blossom. Other teams do it. It’s a reasonable expectation here too.

I kind of had the same thought today too. Im not giving him a pass but I accept that this is how Poles chose to approach things and I'm giving him this season to get through all the tanking before I consider him a failure. But like has been pointed out many times before there is no reason for a rebuild to take more than 1-2 years in the NFL. I expect to start seeing some real success next year.

I look at the giants and am reminded why I wanted Daboll, and instead we have Eberflop

This is an honest question though, do you believe the Giants are any closer to winning a Super Bowl than the Bears? I’m not trying to defend Poles because there is a path where the Bears could be good this year and still be in decent shape for the future in terms of picks and cap. The Giants may make the playoffs but I’m not seeing where they are set up for long term success.

Edit: I guess if you believe Daboll is an elite coach and Eberflus is a turd then you would say the giants are better set up. I don’t think either of those things is confirmed yet, and i don’t even like Eberflus that much lol

I think the Giants are closer based on the fact they have a better QB, HB, WR, Oline, front 6/7, and ST as well as a better coaching staff.

Jones being a better QB right now is basically irrelevant since he's still not good enough to warrant a new contract. Even at low end starter money he probably becomes a net liability.

Obviously Saquon is awesome, but if there's one area I'd least want to have my biggest standout it's RB. One who will also need a huge extension. Very hard to have whatever a market value Daniel Jones and Saquon will be and be a serious contender.

Are they still closer? Maybe still, but not to any significant degree. Their argument for being further along comes down to a better line on both sides of the ball. The Bears argument would be based on Fields potential and a stronger cap situation.

I'd rather the Bears situation looked a lot different, but the Giants situation is not one that looks like it has high end potential of any sort and they have the hallmarks of an overacheiving team benefiting for some positive variance luck at this stage of the season.

Guys, Brian Daboll was a package deal with Joe Schoen who was hired as the Giants GM. They both appeared more interested in New York than any other places with open GM/HC jobs. Daboll would have been great, but he wasn't a realistic option.

I'm also uninterested in crowning GM/coaches a year in, let alone 6 games in.

Bears current draft position is 10, will be 11 if Denver loses tonight.

They don't have any easy games really left other than Detroit twice. But they're on pace to lose out on strength of schedule to most teams for draft order.

It's gonna be when they're bad, but lose out to some franchise changer at 6 v 8 slot or something dumb cuz they had a hard schedule.

A hard schedule that was supposed to be 2nd easiest, that ended up being harder because teams in a similar place (Giants, Jets, Falcons, Patriots) ended up much better than the Bears. Ultimately though, I do think some of those teams will come back down to Earth, and I expect the Bears to pick around 6-10.

DVOA is also still only 50% weighted for opponent at this stage of the season, but bottom 5 team DVOA are as follow, worst to "best"

IND

CAR

WAS

HOU

CHI (29th and 18th ranked O/D)

(little provides more schadenfreude for me than seeing IND dead last for all the unwarranted love Ballard got from Bears fans - and Dodds as a result)

Their other opponents yet to come by DVOA rank

BUF (1)

PHI (2)

DAL (6)

GB (9)

ATL (15)

NE (16)

NYJ (17)

MIA (19)

MIN (20)

DET x2 (24)

Very surprised at ATL being middle of pack. Must be the Pace effect.

Yea I think some mean reversion will come a little, but the Bears also are burnt up their easy part of the schedule. If I was putting money it, I'd say 6-10 too, but top 5 is still in play.

I believe there's a very high probability, certainly closer to 1.00 than, say, .5, the Bears will be picking top 5 in 2023.
