That kind of loss would make me so mad if it happened to the Cubs. Had a huge late HR to take the lead, then had a chance in 3 straight innings to end the game and blew it all 3 times.

This season has mostly sucked. But beating the Brewers will always be satisfying.

It’s been pretty fun this month. Obviously it sucks to miss out on a top pick but I don’t hate the potential outcome of the Cubs playing well to finish the season and getting a lot of positive momentum going into the offseason. 2 of the big SS FAs (Correa and Turner) have already come out and said they aren’t going to a rebuilding team. Hopefully a strong finish gives the appearance of a team that’s not too far off.

I don't think winning meaningless games has ever had any impact on the next season. Especially when this team doesn't really have many future pieces. Like guys like Drew Smyly, Adrian Sampson, Patrick Wisdom, and even Willson Contreras (who might be gone next year) shouldn't be on any actual good Cubs teams yet they've been big contributors.

And picking below top 10 in the Draft would be a huge failure in a year that they were done by May. Not saying they need to be #1 or even top 5 but when it's all said and done with the lottery. May not seem bad now but we'll cringe at it when the draft comes around in July.

And picking 13th in the Draft would be a huge failure in a year that they were done by May. Not saying they need to be #1 or even top 5 but there's a real chance they could be picking as low as 18th when it's all said and done with the lottery. May not seem bad now but we'll cringe at it when the draft comes around in July.

About half the bullpen

All are guys who will be on next year's team who do not have an established level of performance. I have no problem rooting for productive losses when the time is right. I was absolutely the guy rooting for Starlin to go 3/5 but the team to lose ten years ago, but there are far too many potential future contributors on the team at the moment to root for losses. And this isn't like last August where we were trying to talk ourselves into Frank Schwindel, they just mentioned on today's broadcast that the Cubs currently have the 6th youngest roster in baseball.

Even guys like Smyly and Sampson are walking infomercials for the Cubs'pitching dev, which has non-zero value in this winter's FA. I forget which of Martin/Robertson it was but they said they chose Chicago over another comparable offer because reputation Hottovy and co. are starting to get around the league.

The Cubs have been +.500 for over two months.

There have been about three 2-week stretches of really bad baseball. Outside of that, they’ve been a pretty decent team.

I know, “Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln.” But still, more often than not, this has been a pretty fun team to watch when they aren’t in one of their stretches when they go 2-13.

When this team is playing well, I can almost convince myself that a couple quality offseason additions might be enough to compete for a Wild Card spot. But then they ultimately go through a stretch where I wonder how they can ever win another game.

Remember our old friend jamfan? Not taking this well

Imagine thinking that the MLB draft order is that crucial to success...

Are we really going to have to do this once a week for the rest of the season, where someone pretends the 1st round of the MLB draft is an efficient market, and the current Cubs roster is full of no one who can help the team beyond playing out this string? You don't even have to try very hard to see the appeal today, Stroman went 7+, Madrigal had another 3 hit day, Hoerner had a defensive highlight reel, etc.

Cubs now 18-10 since the ASB, 4th best record in baseball over that time (Dodgers, Mets and Cards better).

Somehow passed the Rockies and even with the Marlins now. Quietly now the 10th best record in the NL.

Playing spoiler is fun

Be more fun if they were spoiling the right Central team, but hopefully they can keep this up.
