I'm speculating based on the chatter in the game thread that he was throwing sidearm last night.

 

But given that Morel was only at AA (though he seemed more than ready for Iowa) it seems like this is a "Uh oh we need someone who can credibly backup SS until Hoerner's back" move. Which I'm glad they're not counting on tubby Villar to do it anymore.

It was clearly trending this way, but calling up Morel instead of playing Happ in CF even temporarily feels like a defining moment for Happ's future. Not a problem when he's 6th in MLB in OBP, but when the cooldown inevitably comes, the LF only profile is certainly dimmer long term.

I don't know if he's thread worthy but looks like Brandon Hughes is also coming up too

 

 

I wonder if the COVID-wave has finally subsided and they're cleaning up the roster now? Something like:

 

- Morel and Hughes called up

- Robertson and Stroman off the COVID IL

- Leiter optioned to Iowa

- Menez, Gsellman, and Vargas DFA'd

 

And then Schwindel probably needs to start looking over his shoulder when Frazier's ready

Looks like Heyward is going on the IL and a guy I didn't know was on the roster (Conner Menez) is going to Iowa.

What's the current status of the 40 man roster? I thought the team website was the gold standard, but they show 43 players on the list(not including 60 day DL guys), don't show Newcomb on the DL, etc. Hughes who isn't one of the 43 was apparently added without dropping someone, but I have no idea what that means for the rest.

Stroman and Robertson don't count as Covid IL guys and maybe that's where Heyward is headed as well? That gets you to 40.

 

Edit: This appears to be the case for Heyward as there's no designation on the IL listing.
