Cubs are in 1st place, thanks to a strong start from Kyle, and nice days at the plate from Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Jason Heyward, and everybody's favorite dongsmith, Nico Hoerner.

Pitching matchup looks to favor the Brewers, but maybe the shortened ramp up will continue to hinder power pitchers, as it seemed to take Burnes a while to get comfortable today.

I guess yesterday’s lineup was more about getting a couple guys some early season game action? Woodruff is still starting AFAIK so there’s no other reason to shake it up

Yeah certainly seems that way. I think I would have liked to see Hermosillo though? Peralta is a guy you want to load up against with lefties, so i wonder if we don't see Hermosillo until Tuesday against Quintana now. Wouldn't be a problem mid-season but not ideal coming right out of ST.

Frazier is an interesting decision too. He has struggled against sinkers and changeups in his career, but excelled against fastballs and sliders. So I suspect he will be in the lineup tomorrow in place of one of the lefties.

am i the only one who felt like JD was saying yelich was stealing signs (because, to be clear about my position, he was) without actually saying it?

Ian looks as locked in as I've ever seen him

Really felt like last year he started well but hit into a lot of bad luck, then bad process followed as he got frustrated and he spiraled. A hot start to the year would be huge

When I took the over on this game because I thought a SP meltdown seemed fairly likely, this was not who I expected it from

Hoerner's groundout last inning was 108 MPH, which based on a cursory Fangraphs look is the hardest hit ball of his career

Him leveling up a bit power wise would do a ton for this lineup

I'll take runs any way I can get them, but I think the era of glorious dongsmiths has passed us by

They have 9 runs in 12 innings against the best 1-2 SP in the league in terrible offensive conditions. They'd have 2-3 HR if not for that last part already. Enjoy the good things.

I can't remember specific instances off the top of my head but my memory is that this isn't the first time JD has made it clear what he thinks of an opponent without really saying anything

Hiura swung through a 92 MPH fastball right down the middle. He is NOT fixed

Btw let's pull Steele after Taylor regardless. Job well done but no need to push our luck
