Holy Moly, best NFL playoff season ever?

Wildcard weekend was kind of bust. 49ers-Cowboys was probably the only good game. But I think if these last two games are good it'll still be a resounding yes.

I'm surprised there wasn't a review for a fumble there at the end when Romo thought Reid was arguing about formation

LA seems like a soulless place to live, but watching this NFC title game with 75% Niners fans kinda hammers it home. There’s a reason the 2nd largest city in America didn’t have a team for so long.

Yes. Lived there for the better part of a decade. They care about the Lakers and Dodgers. The NFL was always a tougher sell.

I was there when both the Raiders and Rams left. It was probably the biggest collective “meh” in human history.

Now they’ve got the mega destination stadium, so we’ll see. But like you said, there’s a reason. It’s not an NFL town.

This chart was amazingly unsurprising.

His challenge on that spot early in the 3rd quarter was breathtakingly stupid, as was the timeout he had to piss away because he couldn't get the play in a little later. Luckily for him it didn't matter, but between this game and Belichick eating his lunch in the Super Bowl a few years back I can't say I'm super impressed with him.

Gretzky was so much better than everyone else that its almost hard to believe

This.

I’m no puckhead, but Gretzky played in the least popular major sport, for a Canadian team, in the western time zone, well before the surges of the 24 sports programming, the internet and social media. The NHL was forced to change the rules of hockey because Gretzky (mostly) and the rest of the Oilers were so dominant on power plays. Gretzky was probably the greatest/most dominant singular player of any team sport in the history of sports. And I don’t even think it’s close.

As far as TB being the greatest champion, Bill Russell disagrees.

I didn't move to Canada until the late '80s and am not a hockey fan at all but I've had friends tell me that for much of '80s you were not allowed to draft Gretzky at all in most fantasy leagues because his stats so far surpassed everyone else. Not sure if that rings true for anyone who was in a league during that time.

They had fantasy leagues in the 80s?

Anyways my middle school gym teacher said once Gretsky is like if an MLB player hit 100 homeruns in a season. That's always stuck with me even if I don't know that's is accurate per se.

I would say Gretzky had the best career of any athlete in team sports. But Brady's is the most impressive considering football is the most team driven of the team sports and he proved last year that he's the biggest needle mover in the game's history.

to be fair, you could have placed just about any of the names you think of as all time great QBs into that situation and they could have pulled it off.

it's still impressive as hell that it actually happened, though. Kind of an exclamation point on his career.

At age 43 though? Pretty much every all time great QB was retired at age 43. Dude threw for 4600 yards and 40 TD and win a Super Bowl at an age virtually all QB are a shell of their peak selves.

The age part of it is what makes it impressive. Removing the age makes it much less so. They went 7-9 the year before with a quarterback who threw 30 picks including 7 pick 6's. They clearly had the talent, they just needed a QB who wasn't awful. And everyone remembers the Super Bowl beatdown of KC but it's not like they rolled through the whole postseason. They trailed a 7-9 Washington team entering the 4th quarter. They should have lost to the Saints in the next round if Brees was even halfway competent.

Manning went into Denver and they went from 8-8 to 13-3 his first year. But they lost their divisional round game despite scoring 35 points.

I’m surprised Reid doesn’t rank higher a worse coach with TO/challenge stuff. Seems like most games of KC I watch they’re always burning timeouts/use them recklessly and he challenges some weird stuff. Today alone his first half challenge was dumb and they obviously could’ve used another TO before half. That was a bad one.
