That braves statement is interesting. They have “development revenue” of 42 million and 72 million of depreciation and amortization. I wonder what our books look like with all the ventures they’ve taken up with the renovations and development around the stadium and the amount of debt they took on.

That''s the thing that pisses me off more than anything else. The Ricketts started a separate company for all the development around Wrigley. Easy to hide profits away from the Cubs. They are now using the Cubs to bankroll their other business.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't Loria/Samson cry poor and say they were losing $$ for years? That's how they were handed a stadium for basically free. Then Loria decided to sell the team for an insane amount and when it came to showing the books on the team in the process of selling the team, they actually made a profit every single year? And it was like 40 million profit.

For some reason, I remember there were ppl being pissed at the time in Miami when that all when that all happened. Did I remember it right how it went down??

Yes. And before that he used the same exact playbook with the Expos and Montreal told him to piss off (but in French). He’s one of the biggest assholes in baseball history

He was also gifted the Marlins because he was buddies with Selig (who’s an absolute piece of horsefeathers) when he sold or whatever he did to Lerner to make the Expos in to the Nationals.

Once they came up with a deadline of sorts on the 28th, there very clearly wasn't going to be a deal a minute sooner. But I really did think they'd be in a place by now to get something done on the 28th. I still naively think it's possible but this is a big bummer

Yeah I still tend to think the plan is to let the deadline pass, give it a few days to a week to see if the PA cracks, and then actually negotiate. But I guess we'll know a week from now how naive that is

Unless the players cave we aren't going to have MLB baseball for quite a while. I have no idea what the owners are thinking but I'm thinking they are completely out of touch with reality. Edited by CubinNY

I mean it sounds like the players have already caved significantly and the owners are not budging at all or at least not bridging the gap in any meaningful way.

Yep, the players basically already caved. It'd be nice if they stuck to what's left of their guns - if the owners don't horsefeathering care if I watch baseball, then I'm not going to care either - but I'm guessing they will eventually bend over. Hope I'm wrong.

Reports seem almost semi-positive tonight. I think Bertz is gonna be right with a deal tomorrow or Wednesday. Hopefully MLB extends the fake deadline tonight

All of the MLB futures (division, league, World Series, MVP, ROY, leaders at whatever HRs, RBI, wins, etc) just showed up on my betting app outside of win totals, that’s very interesting.

My first thought was “thank god”

My second thought was “wtf somehow they tricked me into being relieved that were getting a 12 team playoff”

My third thought was “Crap it’s Nightengale which means 14 team playoff confirmed”
