That anyone expects people to buy that the 3rd straight year of a rule is going to be "temporary" makes me irrationally annoyed.

Exactly. Why would a few extra weeks of spring training next season change their minds? This is clearly what they want and there is no going back now. I'm just especially disappointed that they didn't at least give us the 10th inning with normal rules before putting the runner on second.

It does seem inevitable that the ghost runner is permanent. That said, this year is shaping up to be a bloodbath for pitchers, so it wouldn't crazy for the league to be actually telling the truth in this instance that this is temporary change to help not exacerbate things.

 

Though next year the pitch clock is coming, and people are worried about that impact on injuries too...
