Brewers crushed the hapless Rockies, not the it’s healthy or necessary to scoreboard watch in June, especially with lopsided matchups like that. Edited by UMFan83

that heyward hr/foul ball seemed like a load of bull horsefeathers

I’m really confused. That FOX reply clearly showed the ball disappear behind the foul pole. How did the umps not see that? Did my eyes deceive me

buck said the ball “disappeared.” yeah BEHIND the pole aka a fair ball.

I also don’t see how another ump overrules the 3b ump (!!) on the field on a line drive hr down the LF line.

Yeah I’m more confused than I am angry (still angry though). It doesn’t make sense that Joe Buck actually comments that the ball disappears behind the foul pole and no one seems to believe that this means it’s a home run.

3 games back tomorrow after Kershaw beats us. horsefeathers.

If we lose tomorrow and take 2/3 in Milwaukee I’m fine with it. If we win tomorrow and take 1/3 I’m also fine with it.

But the Brewers have their top arms going and the Cubs only have 1 somewhat reliable starter so it’s going to be a tough series. Still only June so just gotta hope you don’t fall more than 5-6 games back and then hope that the Cubs marginally better schedule than the Brewers* the rest of the year is enough to overtake them.

Worse case scenario is they hang in long enough to not sell, but then fade and watch the big 3 walk for nothing (besides draft picks) in the winter

*read somewhere the Brewers have the 4th easiest schedule the rest of the season while the Cubs have the easiest. Kind of sucks because the Cubs have been playing the best teams in baseball for a majority of the last month while the Brewers have played ~18 games against the Diamondbacks, Rockies and Pirates. You’d think there would be a bigger gap

Crazy thing is, the average Cubs opponent over the last 28 games (inc tomorrow) is a 91-71 team and the Cubs have gone 15-12 against them.

The Brewers average opponent over the last 28 games is a 65-97 team and the Brewers have gone 18-9 against them. Only 3 games better with an incredibly easier schedule

I know the Cubs' starting pitching is not dominant by any stretch of the imagination. But is there really any doubt what this team's Achilles heal is. Their offense is mostly garage most of the time. They strike out too much, rely on HRs too much, and are not that great on the base path. Their situational hitting sucks, and for years, they've struggled to get a runner on third in with less than 2 outs. Very frustrating to lose games when the pitching regularly holds teams to 3 or less runs.

it could very well not be a situation where they have 85 games to make it up, because if they’re 8 1/2 back on 7/28 or whatever, they’ll probably clean house

Since May 1, the pitching staff has given up 3 or less runs for the game 34 times. They're 31 and 20. Seems like the Ws should be much higher than that.

And if they are 8.5 down in a month that’s probably the right decision. If they continue to play like they can win the NL Central they have 85 games to surpass the Brewers

Heyward homer or not, if we keep scoring 2 runs or fewer in almost every game then the Ricketts will gleefully order a sell off

I’d be fine with them being sellers. This offense has been Jekyll and Hyde since 2017, and getting progressively worse. And the pitching is not gonna care them in the postseason. I mean, sure, the stars could all align and something crazy could happen. But I won’t hold my breath

A rebuild could be fun if it’s a true rebuild with intentions of winning in short order. Wouldn’t mind seeing what Jed is capable of doing. Much more enthusiasm and positivity on this board back around 2010-2014, and the team sucked all sorts.

I love the Cubs core players, but they peaked in 2016-2017. Don’t get mean wrong, that’s the way to peak. But they aren’t winning another championship together, and they’re not all staying in Chicago after this season, most likely. So trade them away and build for the future.
