Can we get a Clase just once, ever? You'd have to go back to what...Marmol? to find anything close.

Brailyn Marquez and Burl Carraway offer two good opportunities for that sort of mega-impactful reliever

You know you put together a good lineup when you have to pinch hit for your 5 hitter.

That's our DH striking out on 3 garbage bunt attempts, having never had a successful bunt attempt in his life, while Ross just refuses to take off the bunt sign. What are we even doing here.

If it was successful they would have walked our hottest hitter to set up Sogards predictable double play ball

I like what we've seen from Keegan Thompson thus far, but he's not missed bats AT ALL in the early going. He's maybe the worst choice in the entire pen for this situation. This might be the first time this season the team has actively seemed to prioritize player dev over winning within a game

Hoping the plan was to hope he struck himself out, and if not hope Keegan's aforementioned complete inability to miss bats led to a double play.

I don't think this is prioritizing player development, sadly.

I think if they were going for trade value they'd do Brothers, and if they were trying to blow the game they'd do Mills. This feels to me like "the kid seems poised let's throw him in the fire and see how he responds."

at least kimbrel should be rested for friday.

cubs had 31 baserunners in two games, indians had 16.

Heading into the bottom of the 10th you need 2 innings of work, I can accept that the benefit of having a lesser pitcher face the bottom third of the lineup is greater than the odds that the offense puts up more than a singular run in the top of the 11th.

I don’t believe in clutchness but in his Cubs career Heyward has shown a remarkable habit of never getting a hit when it matters

Probably not great that I can easily pick moments he's come through because they stand out that much but 4 quick ones I can think of:

-Walk off single against the Mets earlier this season

-Go ahead 3 run HR off of Hader in the 9th of a game the Cubs were trailing

-Walk off grand slam against the Phillies in 2018

-Game winning single in Jon Lester 1 hitter against the Giants in 2016

Love being unable to bring in our closer in a bases loaded, 1 out situation because he might possibly have to pitch another inning while the other team throws out Clase and Karinchak after they both pitched yesterday.
