I don't know why people don't believe Nagy here. He's been pretty clear about trying to repeat the Mahomes experience. Odds are Dalton will force his hand earlier than Alex Smith did, but the odds of Fields starting game 1 are low.

I think its overwhelmingly likely Dalton starts week 1, and he's obsessed with repeating 'the Mahomes experience' but I definitely think the door is opened at least a crack if Fields destroys the preseason.

I think it's mostly coach speak. It's not like the QB job is a 50/50 competition like it was last offseason between Foles and Trubisky. Nagy is tempering everyone's expectations for Fields and letting us know it's not the end of the world if Fields doesn't start Week 1. I think the Bears have a "plan" for Fields, but I don't think it has anything to do with what people have speculated as getting Fields against an easier defense than the Rams, or waiting until the bye week, or waiting until the OL shows they can protect him and Dalton well enough. The "plan" should be all about Fields. When can he run the offense well enough to be the best guy to win games. I think Nagy has hopes that it will be Week 1, but if it's not, that's fine as well.

I do think Dalton will be the guy Week 1. If there's any doubt on Fields he won't be in there. But Nagy's not an idiot. There's very little reason to waste time with Dalton with him being 34 and on a 1-year deal just because Mahomes sat for a year. I fully expect Fields by Week 5 at the latest

Fields looks small to me for some reason. I know he isn't, he actually has decent height and good/great strength.

Love seeing him in a Bears jersey though

That was my first reaction as well. He looks slimmed down. I wonder if he's not as padded up as he'll actually be on gamedays. I don't think I can even fathom how fast he's going to be if he is actually slimmed down just a few pounds.

Someone should tell Bears social media managers that Dalton is the week 1 starter. 90% of their content is Fields

I'm sure someone told them their job is to sell tickets and merchandise and they know Fields is marketable and Dalton....isn't.

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman was the only veteran who didn’t report to the Bears’ three-day minicamp. He’s not expected to join the team this week, either.

“As everybody knows, it’s a mandatory minicamp and he’s not here,” Nagy said. “But we did have a discussion with him (Monday) — obviously, I’m going to keep that between us — but we do expect him to be at training camp, rocking and rolling.”

Goldman opted out of the 2020 season because of the pandemic. Nagy, though, wouldn’t say whether his absence at minicamp was related to similar concerns. But it definitely wasn’t excused.

Interesting blurb about Goldman particularly because he opted out of last year and now isnt showing up for mandatory training camp. Something to look out for as we get closer to the season. We can really use a healthy and productive Goldman next year.

Bears signed former Chiefs (and Packers) NT, Mike Pennel today. Seems like the team isn't sold on Goldman being in and/or ready to go in camp in 6 weeks.

Can never have enough TEs right?

Butt was awesome at Michigan and was likely going to be a 2nd round pick before he tore his ACL, which caused major complications for 3 seasons. Worth a flyer I think. Given how long he's been rehabbing its not super likely he'll be the same player he was at Michigan but if he is its a big steal.

Probably not wearing full pads for a photo shoot.

This may be a terrible idea, but I was thinking it would be fun if Nagy made a limited package of plays for Field every week. It could be situational, like in the red zone, or just a random series with Fields coming out to run a play or a few plays. If each time the package was unique it would be like a trick play that Nagy loves, and if they were solidifying game installs for him bit by bit then it could actually help his development. Mostly I think it would be fun for another team to know he was going to randomly get in the game and force them to adjust to something very different than Dalton.

That would be a good and fun idea. But my favorite idea is just starting the season with Fields.
