Perhaps it is a good thing he chose football...

“I was just thinking about baseball, actually, when I was sliding,” Fields said. “Stealing first base and going to second. You do that a lot in baseball. It’s definitely easy for me.”

Stealing first base?

It’s called a dropped third strike

I played baseball from age 5 through HS and never once did I hear reaching first on a dropped 3rd strike called stealing first base.

we had to introduce it in girls softball this season and the kids call it that when trying to grasp the idea. I googled the phrase and it’s quite popular in that context.

It's an Albany expression

Definitely a bit worried about the line injuries. We sort of gambled on Jenkins being a day 1 starter and he hasnt been able to get a full practice in yet, which is critical for a rookie.

Then still him saying, "you do that a lot in baseball" means he chose the right sport because apparently he struck out a bunch.

Also, side note.... dropped 3rd strikes in little league destroys me. My son's team once struck out 20 kids in a 6 inning game this past season and they actually turned 4 outs in the field that game. They had two 5-strikeout innings that they pitched.

The OL injuries are interesting. It's never good to have OL injuries, and it's not good when they're not guaranteed to be good to begin with. But it is at least encouraging that the Bears have 5-6Mil in cap space (depending where you look) and the Bears actually have NOT signed anyone. That shows me they aren't too concerned about the OL health long-term. It does suck that your rookie LT has 0 snaps in practice after a week though, especially when they said he would practice yesterday. I doubt he's ready for the first preseason game, but not in danger of him missing any real time just yet.

A pitcher on my team in high school struck out 27 guys. They didn't put a ball in play, but our catcher had enough passed balls to score runs and make us go to extra innings.

This is definitely not the horsefeathers I've read about any other Bears QB. I also read that some camp goers caught him alone running up and down hills 20 minutes after practice was over. Sure a lot of this is just fluff but I don't care, I'll read this horsefeathers all day.

I'm of the mind that this kind of coverage doesn't mean your QB is good, but NOT getting this kind of over the top coverage is pretty good early warning that your guy is bad.

If everyone talking about a young QB is like "he's handling himself well out there" it's time to panic IMO.

It took a week's worth of practices, but there are finally whispers everywhere you look about Fields being more than the Bears even hoped for. The Riddick quote. The report from fans attending camp. The people who say they have contacts in Halas Hall. There's just something different about Fields and everybody seems to know it but nobody is saying it too loudly because they're afraid of getting ahead of themselves.

It's definitely different, it seems based more on actual talent rather than looking better than previous QBs.

Trubisky looked better because of how awful Glennon was those 1st 4 games as well as Hoyer/Barkley taking the majority of the snaps the year before. Hell, a Super 8 hotel seems nice if you've been in an Econolodge the week before.

Can't wait for 8/14, even for one drive.

Hook it directly to my veins. I'm all in. Not nervous at all.
