If money is truly there, I'd like to make some moves that get some shopping done for this winter early, and don't cost much in terms of prospects.

Like if the Dodgers are happy with their depth, I bet AJ Pollock or David Price could be had for little/nothing. If Nick Castellanos is no longer hitting at a Bonds-ian level, him too. Wil Myers, Andrew Mccutchen, and Kevin Kiermaier have all gotten off to slow starts, but if they get back to their normal clips they'd all fit the mold of what I'm looking for.

Curious to see with the unknown of what the next CBA will contain if teams will want to take on existing contracts, etc, when it could be sort of a different set of rules they are playing under next season or whenever baseball comes back.

Said it in the MiL thread but there’s going to be way better players available than the guys being thrown out here. A first division starting SS in his mid-20s was just traded for Drew Rasmussen and someone probably not as good as Drew Rasmussen. They can do really well if the team keeps winning, which they will

My ideal deadline/adds would be Jon Gray, Adam Frazier and potentially some sort of RH bat that hits lefties (position shouldn’t overly matter with KB and others abilities to move between IF/OF).

Eh, I'm not looking to buy high on anyone but a star or somehow available superstar but also have no idea who is available, even if there's some tweaking to do. For example I much, much, much prefer German Marquez to Gray. Gray's rocking a 10% K-BB and hasn't really gained back the velocity he lost. Marquez hasn't lost anything in the way of stuff and even while struggling has better all around numbers balancing just slightly fewer GBs with way more pop ups and Ks. Definitely want a SP, a good and established one preferably under contract for next season (Marquez, Berrios, Ryu, someone like that so g'luck there)

I want a bat wherever Bryant isn't playing but :dontknow:

Oh Marquez would be awesome or a similar guy. I just don’t know if they’ll buy to that level and give up real prospects. Because he probably takes 1 of the top 5-7 or so guys in the system plus other stuff. Just try to keep my expectations lower than hoping for a major add.

What does it take to Land Means from Baltimore? He has lots of years of control and the peripherals are good. Could it get done without Brennen Davis or Ed Howard?

As soon as word gets out that Means is available, there would be a bidding war among 10-12 teams, so you would have to really up the ante.

I think Means is Quintana in different dress. Not a bad thing, but they should shop higher with more of a track record

Also also I think the Cubs can do some selling, just not who we're expecting...Any of Brothers (FA 2023), Wieck (2026), Mills (2026), and Maples (2027) could/should be able to contribute to any trade

We gave up our #1 and #7 prospects to get Quintana who was 28 years old with ERA+ of 115 and making $7 million. Means is 28 years old with an ERA+ of 132 and is making next to nothing with 4 years of control left. He won't come cheap.

I know the Cubs have been notorious for doing this in the past but what is the benefit of not putting Rizzo on the IL? Surely with all the position player injuries we could have used a bat off the bench the last 8 days. Back injuries are likely a day to day thing and they were gambling that he’d feel better quick enough to not put him on the IL, but it sure seems like the Cubs make that gamble a lot and lose.

Williams out indefinitely and on the IL, Kohl Stewart called up to start today

Hopefully, this becomes a precursor of things to come.

I think part of the reason no move has been made is because of where the 40-man is at with all the other injuries. Calling up an alt site guy, etc would require a 40-man move. There’s no healthy options with guys on the 40-man and we’ve already gone pretty deep with the Wisdom, Ortega, Alcantara call ups.

The Rangers have claimed right-hander Tyson Miller off waivers from the Cubs. Miller has been optioned to the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock.

Still not a fan of just letting him go for nothing. Oh well.

The Cubs signed Tony Cingrani to a minor league contract earlier this week, per an announcement from the Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League. The southpaw had been pitching for the independent club since May.

He's a guy I wanted the Cubs to get like 5 years ago. Hasn't pitched in the majors since 2018.

Dodgers DFA'd Conner Greene. A claim at this point might be a good idea, cheap route to getting an early start to adding some velocity to the pitching staff

Why?
