The Rockies are reportedly kicking in 50 mil for the mostly middling prospects.

I know this is a Cubs board, but the Cardinals just horsefeathering stole him.

You guys excited about Arozarena this year?

He plays for Tampa, so, sure I guess?

Feels like this makes those opt outs even longer shots.

So essentially 5 mediocre prospects for Arenado at 8/160ish.

Perennially contending Cardinals with 2 playoff appearances in the last 5 seasons, 1 due to a pandemic that gave us 3 extra playoff spots in each league, 1 division title, haven’t gotten within 7 wins of a World Series or 3 games on a pennant

Yes I’m being a stickler but screw them

It should be 7/$214 not 8. He currently has 6/$199. With the $50M kicked in, that should put the AAV for the first 6 years around $25M and an extra year at $15M. Damn.

Entering age 30 season, 7 year deal at $25M AAV and away from Coors. Like all big deals, will be interesting to watch his production in the latter half of the contract.

Exactly. Not sure this Cardinals team is in any position to state that this deal takes them anywhere close to over the top. Good for them but they are stockpiling a lot of old guys.

I mean good for them, they see a time when they actually have a chance to be better than the Cubs on paper for the first time in like 5 years. But if you come at the king you best not miss. Especially with how that contract will look if he doesn’t make the post Coors adjustment.

Yup. That 5 years was just a huge chunk of history when you think about it.

Huge.

lol - hi cards fans. Glad you weren't in DC on the 6th.

lmao tarp been doing this to you guys once a year for almost two decades. respect.

The Cubs are such a dumpster fire than I can’t get worked up about what anyone else does.

The problem is the whole NL Central is a dumpster fire, regardless of this move. It’s a race to 85 wins +/-. The 2005 Padres won the west at 82-80, and that appears to be the lowest wins for a division winner ever in a 162 game season after a quick google search, the NL central may challenge that this year.

The 2006 Cardinals went 83-78 to win the WS. I’m still pissed about it

1994 AL West would've shattered this record had the season been completed. When the strike occurred, Texas was leading the division at 52-62.

Ownership nut huggers will be pitching tents when the Cubs win the division going 80-82. “Look how economically they created a division winner!”
