You know, when the names included Campusano and Cronenworth, I still horsefeathering hated this but I could at least squint and see something resembling rationale.

This horsefeathering mess, however, is an absolute disaster. What a hideous, disgusting horsefeathers sandwich of a move. I never want to hear from Tom Ricketts about consistent contention again.

I don't care if all 5 prospects hit, I'll just think they got lucky and I'll never stop thinking this is one of the worst MLB trades I've ever seen. The fact that Caratini is getting thrown in too is laughable. He's not far off from being a prospect himself and he'd be the best prospect of the bunch.

I think we'll look back on this in 2 or 3 years and be fine with this deal. The most disappointing aspect is that it looks like they're going long term rebuild so we can expect 3 or 4 years of really bad baseball. I was hoping for a 1 year retool and back to decent in 2022.

People will be fine with it because they will say the Cubs were going to suck with or without Yu (no pun intended). But this is the Ricketts work. And it's terrible.

I would have been completely fine if they got Campusano in a deal. Croenworth I wasn't much of a fan of but at least I get why they would bring him in because he was great last year. Not getting either is laughable. Not getting one top 10 prospect from their system is laughable. Caratini was a top 100 prospect a few years ago, not one of the prospects they got are in the top 100.

Man this trade sucks, I don’t care if the guys turn out, it’s a terrible process. You HAVE to get a top end prospect for Darvish and Caratini, especially taking on Davies salary. 4 lotto tickets 17-20 or whatever is insane. This indicates to me we are burning this to the ground with those prospect’s time horizon’s. Tank time.

See the thing is, the Cubs are nowhere bad enough to tank. The NL Central is so bad that they can still actually compete assuming no other moves are made. I wish they were bad enough to tank again but they're likely gonna sit in the high 70's for wins and that's enough to keep them in the NL Central until the end.

Remember when Theo was going to do the Cubs Way and make it so that we never had to do this again.

I can't wait to tell an entire generation of Cubs fans that this rebuild thing is new and they've never committed to building from the farm system before.

I'm not so sure about that because it's just too risky a haul. 4 guys in rookie ball, only one of whom has played professionally. Of the guys they acquired, two were rated around Kevin Made from the 2019 IFA class and a third was the 180th rated draft prospect from the 2020 draft by BA. In 3-4 years, if even 2 haven't flamed out by AA, we're lucky. Prospects are obviously not a sure thing but going this route just added so much unnecessary risk.

Rebuilds aren’t easy and we were spoiled by the most successful one in sports history. It’s far more likely we aren’t a playoff team for another 10+ years than it is we have this thing back on track in 3-4 years like last time.

This move indicates to me, like I said, more moves are coming with the age of these prospects. While the NL Central may prop us up I still see picking top 7-10 on the horizon soon for a while.

I mean, I would actually be slightly more relieved if this was actually the case. Because right now I'm envisioning them in Bears 8-8 hell for the next several years.

No way, especially after this year with like the whole team hitting FA and their clear unwillingness to spend.

Jesus horsefeathering Christ this sucks. Couldn't even get Weathers or Morejon? Just something to add more value? It's a mid-rotation starter (at best) and a bunch of far away prospects that weren't highly ranked in the Padres' system for our ace and a solid catcher? What the horsefeathering horsefeathers.

damn...we are going *young* on the return

19, 18, 17 & 16 (almost 17) for those four guys.

It doesn't really make it okay, but between this trade, Ed Howard, and the last two IFA classes the Cubs now have a pretty absurd collection of teenagers. Like holy crap.

But it's wild that this trade didn't have a better headliner. Like I'd have been pretty fine with Cronenworth or Morejon plus these four. But this is just so little near term value. This is not the "step back in 2021 to take two steps forward in 2022" deal that I was bracing for.
