Packers are going to have to win next week to retain home field. Not good for the Bears.

But if Ten comes back tonight, and the Bears manage to upset them next week.....

Bears Packers wild card matchup?

yup

our only hope is to hurt Aaron Rodgers

Upon closer inspection they do also need Arizona to beat LA in that case.

In any case, GB would need SF to beat SEA for the game not to matter but there's almost no chance that's decided first. So the Pack are playing for a bye and potentially to eliminate the Bears. Joy.

So uh, go Rams. Bears getting mollywhopped next week.

Would the Packers bench the starters for next week to guarantee everyone is healthy for the playoffs? They have nothing to play for.

EDIT: Ahh, they would lose the 3 way tie scenario with Seattle and New Orleans. So GB would have something to play for if both won.

We tried that once, it didn't work

I never saw the Packers sitting anyone anyway. Best case scenario was they clinched and played starters for a half. Last 1st half against the Bears they're up 27-3, do that might be all they need anyway.

Goff broke his thumb. Someone named John Wolford may be starting for the Rams. Anything can happen but this may be tough. The good news is the Cardinals are sneakily not really good

There's about a 2% chance the Bears beat a Packers team with something to play for.

With Goff hurt, we're set up perfectly for the classic Bears last-out.

I hear ya. FWIW Goff claims he hurt it in the 3rd and it didn’t affect his throwing later in the game. Since the Rams won’t have clinched anything by kickoff, he has every reason in the world to try to play and the rams have every reason to win. The bears need to keep the game close so that the Rams have no incentive to look at the scoreboard and take their foot off the gas.

It's questionable how good Goff is when healthy. When injured? Yikes. Hopefully McVay has a good game plan.

Their backup has never thrown a regular season pass

In the Bears favor, the Cardinals aren't that good of a team. They just got beat by CJ Beathard and if Robbie Gould could kick they'd been blown out. So, there's a solid chance the Rams with a backup or injured QB could run and short pass enough to beat the Cardinals mediocre D, and their great defense can shutdown Murray.

Jags not only have the #1 pick, but they have an extra first rounder and 4th rounder from the Jalen Ramsey trade, an extra 2nd round pick from the Yannick Ngakoue trade, and an extra 5th rounder from the Ronnie Harrison trade. They are also the team with the most cap space at $75m. They can make a pretty quick turnaround.

They aren't completely devoid of talent either. They have some solid OL talent. Chark is a high end #2 WR at worst, Robinson is a solid RB, and Shenault looks like a potential asset in the slot. Their only significant FA is Cam Robinson, their LT, who is just 25 and they obviously can afford to re-sign. Even if they don't they can upgrade him. But the right coaching hire can go a long way for them. Lawrence is a QB you can do anything with, run any scheme. I think they may go for a guy like Joe Brady, who's young and has recent college experience.

hoping for a Rams win is probably the more likely scenario in which the bears get into the playoffs, but it wouldn't be the better scenario. The Bears have to prove their offense is really working. I thought they did that against the Vikings and turn around to see the Saints put up more points against their failing D. Its time for the Bears to beat a team at their apex, or get ready to trade up

Both the Saints (@ Panthers) and the Seahawks (@ 49ers) will be getting crushed by halftime, and the Packers being the charitable blokes they are will pull all their starters and let the Bears win.

I'm really interested to see how this Trubisky situation plays out. Just so many factors at play for his future.

On one hand, he's not going to be handed a starting job on any other team in the league. But his situation isn't like Jameis' because he doesn't have character issues nor did he throw 30 INTs. His situation is probably most similar to Mariota's (former #2 pick, not good enough but not a disaster) except Mitch didn't have the other QB come in and play at a high level after replacing him.

On the other hand, the Bears probably can't do any better than him for 2021. It'll be interesting to see how (presumably) Pace plays this. I personally would play hardball with him. Let him test the market and see what he can get. I think around the league he gets valued more toward Winston or Dalton than someone guaranteeing him 9-10M to be a backup like Mariota. So, I would gamble on that then hope the Mariota deal looks good to him in comparison or if someone does offer him similar, he'd take that deal to get a better chance to start for the Bears than to compete with a Taysom Hill, Drew Lock, or Alex Smith in NO, DEN or WAS, respectively (for example). If he does go elsewhere, I think there are enough avenues to get similar QB play for that type of cost or better.

Best thing for the Bears right now may be their cap situation. They can't afford to pay Bridgewater money to Trubisky and pay/franchise Allen Robinson. So that may force their hand into playing it out this way.

Unfortunately the Bears will already be down 35-10 so they won't be able to mount that comeback :D

Yea, they can't overpay Mitch. Even if this is the new/real Mitch that just isn't a QB you can pay 20-25M to.

I'd give him something like 2/12 in guaranteed money and some snap count incentives that could bump it to 10M per year. Additional performance incentives they can bump it to 15m per year. If he can beat that on the market, do your best with a Flacco or whatever on a cheap deal and focus on the draft for acquiring a QB in the next 2 years.

I'd agree. I guess we'll see if he's really as level headed as Pace staked his career on and takes that kind of contract.
