^^ He said Hoyer also insisted on getting Rizzo when he was with the Padres when Epstein was trying to dump Lars Anderson

Hot take: I think Hoyer as the GMident is a good thing. Alot of media will take Epstein leaving as an opportunity to double down on rebuildz and tanking and cutting and generally becoming a truly trash organization. They'd really really really be able to hammer it in if there was some major transition. Then you're also getting the wheels turning on becoming a bad NFL franchise, hiring and firing GMs every 3-5 years because he doesn't have a certain je ne sais quoi. I know Hoyer can win here, sees the people in the org as people and not just data or assets or whatever the brainwashing program is set on rn, etc etc Probably plenty hungry too being in Epstein's shadow the whole time in Chicago

He singled out Craig Breslow at least once too

Good points. I think you are right about stability being a good thing and not going into that cycle of trying to find the guy and failing (basically what the Bears have been doing for awhile). We know what we're mostly getting from Jed, probably the same approach to team building and player acquisitions with possibly some much needed tweaks.

Do we think Theo tweets from his burner account one last time before handing the reigns over to Jed?

You were 3 minutes too early.

Theo turning in to a horsefeathers poster criticizing every Jed move during his tenure.

I mean, we all knew the last few years was likely going to be the best stretch we ever will see. No? The end was going to be coming soon and likely be a hard landing. I tried to enjoy it as much as possible.

Yeah I don’t think Jed is bad and am fine with him moving up. Just hope the GM comes from outside the org to bring fresh blood and new ideas.

I agree.

I'm assuming it'll go to Kantrovitz or Jared Porter.

Yeah, Sharma's article from yesterday indicated that Kantrovitz and/or Craig Breslow are due to get promoted, and they're looking at Porter or Amiel Sawdaye from Arizona as outside hires. Sawdaye, for people who don't know, was under Theo and Jed back in Boston.

Porter seems the most likely. I wish they could poach Josh Byrnes from the Dodgers but I'm not sure the Cubs GM position is even a lateral move for him (he's a VP of Baseball Operations and the Dodgers haven't had a formal GM since Farhan Zaidi left for San Francisco). Byrnes did work closely with Theo and Jed in Boston.

Yeah, if I had my pick I'd choose someone fresh, and not from the Theo management tree. I know Byrnes is, but he's been away from the nest much longer between the time he was on his own with the Dbacks the last several years with the Dodgers.

Wasn’t Josh Byrnes the original rumor for the role Hoyer wound up with?

This hit hard. It’s unreal how he nailed the rebuild with the stated goal of winning a World Series.... Honestly feels like a part of my life is now done. He had some weird and rare ability to draw me and us as fans in with the plan and basically say “this is what’s happening, this is what we are going to do and enjoy it because it’s going to work.”

Wish I enjoyed it more than I did looking back, because while I did as much as I could, I definitely took parts of it for granted and the WS was more a relief than the joy it should’ve been. Yeah it’s just sports but I think all of us hold the Cubs as “more than sports” in out hearts and lives. Theo was just a really horsefeathering good leader and person to have in our lives in charge of something we held close to our heart and enjoyment.

did he even go to the Trump visit?

No, don’t think so. My memory is that he and Laura did not, and they certainly aren’t in the pictures.

Jed did, but wore a blue tie. Maddon did, but said it was out of loyalty to Tom and “out of respect for the building”. Rizzo did, but said it wasn’t a political endorsement and wore blue, having worn red (burgundy) when meeting Obama. KB wore light blue. Contreras went, but I don’t think Javy did. Heyward, Strop, Edwards, and Russell did not. Lackey was almost the only one who skipped Obama but went to see Trump. Fowler and Chapman didn’t but were on different teams at that point. Rondon skipped both visits and said he just wanted to stay in his room and prepare for the game. Arrieta skipped both as well, while Lester went to both. Ross and Hendricks I don’t see in the official pic, but don’t really remember either way.

Edwards had the best response, saying he was going to visit the dinosaur museums instead.

EDIT: I was wrong, Lester actually missed the Obama visit due to a family funeral. Sorry I got that wrong.
