Since he was clearly leaving after next season anyway, I'm not surprised he decided to step down now. Let's hope he left Jed some of his secret sauce for the next rebuild.

He definitely delivered the goods. The second half of 2015 through the end of '16 is about the most day-to-day fun I've ever had as a sports fan.

He left something like $10 million on the table by leaving early. I'm surprised.

Those types of departures are negotiated well in advance. More likely than not there was a buyout and he got a good chunk of the money.

Bummer.

Really thought things would end differently, but PTR really leaned in and went full PTR and that was the nail in the coffin.

Nailed it-ish...

FORMER Marlins exec Michael Hill should absolutely be on the shortest of short lists of Theo replacements. Maybe the one I'd say the Cubs should dump Theo for now. We already know he can work under meddlesome owners with sinister ulterior motives

PTR is just gonna promote the leftovers up a spot so he only has to hire a low level scout.

I cannot help but think the financial problems with the Cubs and in baseball in general made this decision a little easier for him. Best decision PTR made.

Not sure what you mean. Maybe that Bill Walsh quote was treated as gospel more than it should have but i never expected him to last longer than 1 more season. It makes sense given where the Cubs are at that he would leave now. Maybe he would have stayed if the Cubs were spending like they should be, but I'd guess not.

Fake edit: Or do you mean PTR caused the ending to the Theo era to be disappointing?
