Meanwhile, in the AL, there are already 7 teams at better than 83% to make the playoffs, since there is currently a huge projection divide between what are effectively the 7 good AL teams (Yankees, Astros, Twins, A's, White Sox, Indians, Rays) and the 8 not so good AL teams (Royals, Mariners, Rangers, Tigers, Orioles, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Angels). Somebody has to take that 8th spot though.

Such is the season and playoff structure that only the Pirates are currently projected to finish more than 5 games out of a playoff spot. So we could have a scenario where almost nobody is eliminated from playoff contention going into the final week of the season (assuming the season gets to the final week), along with the caveat that there are at least 3-4 teams that have to make up multiple games after that last week.

So against a lefty (granted, no clue what his splits are), we're going with Schwarber/Hoerner/Heyward.

Almora and Souza, early warning that the Bobs are coming in to interview all the employees pretty soon here.

Is there anyone with a lower exit velocity than Almora? I caught his hit out of the corner of my eye last night and immediately knew it came off his bat. Does he even still rake lefties?

No Souza is weird, maybe there’s something in whatever data they’re looking at that says don’t play him. But yeah if Almora isn’t playing vs lefties (he shouldn’t, he sucks) what exactly is it that he does here.gif? Get Dietrich or Miller or Perez up here then.

I know that you weren't necesarily suggesting bringing up Dietrich to face lefties, but he has a .656 lifetime OPS versus them.

Yeah not to come up and play vs them (or play very selectively vs them), but he has some useful skills to deploy and has positional versatility. If Almora isn’t going to play vs lefties (which I agree with) he’s just taking up a roster spot for someone who can contribute something because Almora is a complete horsefeathering zero.

This might be why no Almora against the lefty. Although it makes Schwarber in left instead of Bryant or Happ weird

Javy needs to run, not stand and watch

Frustrating play there. At least Kb read it well, Javy can get a pass for 1 temporary moment of loss of awareness.
