Craziest thing about Pujols' decline is his plate discipline. He used to spit on the toughest borderline pitches. Suddenly he became a hacker a while back.

his career obp is pretty locked in, I'd sacrifice walks to get extra ABs and pad my career dinger total at that age too

I haven’t watched a lot of Angels games in recent years so I haven’t watched Pujols decline. He is a fat shell of himself.

It’s kind of crazy. Due to how long he’s sucked and the fact that he’s been on a middling west coast team, it feels like he retired like 7 years ago. He had one of the most dominant decades in baseball history and for the past 6-7 years, no one talks about him or really thinks about him at all unless you are an Angels fan or are playing the Angels. He’s just kind of there and has been for awhile.

It's not just about walks. We all know that chasing pitches is bad and his dropoff as a hitter can largely be attributed to losing patience and putting crappy pitches that he used to laugh at, into play. He really hasn't padded any stats as much as he's hindered his own path to being the HR king he had expected to be.

His chase rate was sub 20 in his prime. A hitters eye is normally the one tool you can reasonably expect to maintain as age catches up. He has been over 30% for a decade now. It seems to be a pretty unique case of decline.

Well he was 40 when he signed with the Angels so him seeing a drop off at that point makes sense.

If these scores hold (and the only one in question is Arizona leading San Diego 1-0 in the 4th), the only undefeated teams after day 2 (and change) will be the Astros and *groan* the Cardinals. There are currently 22 teams with a 1-1 record

So the 4 players that tested positive for COVID on the Marlins were almost certainly all in the clubhouse and/or possibly played in Saturday’s game, as the tests that were positive were administered on Friday and the results not delivered until Saturday night. So it’s possible both the Marlins and Phillies were exposed. The Phillies are staying home to play the Yankees while the Marlins are going to Miami to play the Orioles. If there was any significant exposure, this may spread fast.

Meanwhile, Moustakas on the Reds also tested positive. He played in this weekends series at GABP, where the Cubs will be playing the next 4 days..

Tatis just hit an oppo HR in San Francisco. Don’t see that often by a RHB, at night especially, in that park.

The Padres are super fun. They've been my west coast MLB.tv team in the early going this year

Astros just brought in a relief pitcher named Andre Scrubb. What a terrible name for a 'professional' athlete. And he walks Chris Taylor on 4 pitches with the bases loaded in his first MLB game.

But then gets Seager to GIDP. Nice comeback, kid!

So there's a bit of a panic ref Bryant's slow start. Admittedly, not awesome.

How about this line to start the season: 1 for 22, 1 HR, 3 RBI,1 BB, 9 Ks. Who is that masked man?

So Joe Kelly threw at both Bregman and Correa, got out of the inning without any runs (he actually struck out Correa), and then trolled the Astros until they cleared their dugout. Legend move.

Lol

I don't like Joe Kelly, but horsefeathers Carlos Correa and horsefeathers the Astros and everyone who helped them cheat...

The Correa one was a curve with two runners on so I'm guessing that wasn't intentional. The Bregman one was 100% intentional though. It was on a 3-0 count with nobody on and one out.

Wasn't Kelly on the cheating Red Sox?

He was. I'm leaning towards that making this even a little funnier.
