I'm surprised you haven't heard of him if you follow the Bulls closely. Much has been written and debated over the years once the Bulls drafting seemed to drop off post-Lloyd on places like RealGM. And he ended up being one of the 4-5 GM candidates that just went to Eversley.

That said the Magic haven't been great drafters in his time there.

Also in regards to analytics and scouting I don't think is purely a crunch the numbers game. Half of it is just how to properly catalogue the more subjective scouting inputs, which sounds like it may have more what he was up to than pure numbers crunching.

Anyways the Bulls also have supposedly had an analytics guy who they hired out of the league office a couple years ago. I'm not sure if he's very in depth with scouting, but apparently aided in finally pushing for the Bulls to alter their shot selection this year. He was also pulling double duty in the old FO as the cap expert and that is the new AGM Polks speciality. KC did indicate he was safe though. Write up on him

The bulls had a strong commitment to analytics dating back to Jerry Krause citing Elton Brands 8 foot wingspan overcoming his smaller stature.

I don’t know why I always remember this weird factoid.

I also can't believe how confident I was after that game was over, oops.

I was at that game and I remember leaving the UC and hearing multiple conversations about who our finals opponent would be. In retrospect it was silly to be confident about beating a team with LeBron, Wade and Bosh after one win but at the time LeBron was still looked at as a choker in big moments and the Heat as being too thin to win a championship. Derrick Rose was so good it was like he could will the Bulls to wins and the bench mob could hold their own in spurts against most starting lineups.

Damn I miss those teams. Having no real teams in Chicago that are set up for long term success right now sucks.

Not only did they destroy them in game 1, but they had also gone 3-0 against Miami in the regular season.

That series was much closer than the 5 game outcome suggested, but whatever. They lost game 4 in overtime and I still can't believe how they blew game 5 at the end.

Haslem was such a problem for us protecting the rim. We just kept attacking him and getting thwarted left and right. When he was off the floor we had little trouble scoring. Then we went ice cold from deep and Rose started forcing drives with 6 hands in his face. We really blew that series. It was hard to stomach.

He has LaMelo Ball ranked #1 followed by Anthony Edwards and then James Wiseman. I guess LaMelo is becoming the consensus best prospect in this draft class. I think they have him ranked #1 over on ESPN as well. I have no idea how the new Bulls FO views this draft class, but they have plenty of time to review tape and conduct interviews.

Saddiq Bey is ranked 16th and is slowly moving up.

I'm honestly not sure when the NBA is going to hold their draft because draft-day trades happen involving players on team rosters, so you can't do it until the regular season (and playoffs) are over...

The regular season might not continue or resume, but the NBA playoffs will happen at some point. Maybe in July? It feels like MLB will start their season before the NBA, and Adam Silver seems more cautious about when they start up again.

I kinda really want Ball.

I feel like he's going to end up being a bigger, taller version of Ricky Rubio, unfortunately. Amazing passing ability and court vision, but he won't score enough or be efficient.

Also, if you draft LaMelo then you have to deal with his father (LaVar Ball):

FWIW, LaVar Ball hasn’t been a story at all since Lonzo came here.

"We want to be in L.A.," LaVar Ball told ESPN. "But if he's traded, I don't want Lonzo in New Orleans. Phoenix is the best fit for him. And I am going to speak it into existence."

Maybe he hasn't been a problem thus far, but I say give it some time lol.

That looks like it was from a year ago while he was still with the Lakers. Living here and keeping up with the Pels pretty closely, that quote from you is the first peep I've head from him. Point being, LaVar doesn't seem like a factor the way he used to be, with Lonzo anyway.

Fun fact: I went to look up Ball's stats in New Orleans, all of ESPN's NBA roster and stats pages are broken links. Tey've given up (lol)

So...if the lottery goes as expected, the Bulls would draft...7th?

The NBA froze lottery-odd positions based on records when the season was suspended on March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The 14 teams in the Aug. 25 lottery will include the eight left out of the season's resumption in Orlando and the six that participate in the restart but don't qualify for the playoffs, the league said.

Yeah, it looks like it. It doesn't really make a difference this year anyway...
