Apparently Justin Zanik, Jazz GM interviewed today.

I have to imagine he was on the short list even if the initial reports didn't list him since they interviewed today.

Either that or the Bulls pulled together a face saving interview really fast.

Karnisovas to interview mid-week.

caveat - it's cowley, but KC is reporting the same thing, and I'm basically posting it because if even cowley says it, it must be legit...cowley would love to call them out for insisting paxson be involved if he even had so much as an inkling that that was happening.

John just horsefeathering leave.

Of course that still leaves Gar lurching in the background.

I know I'm a total cynic about all things Bulls org but this sounds like something they are floating out there so candidates know that Pax won't have any oversight. He said he would step down if the Reinsdorfs ask him to. I highly doubt the Reinsdorfs would do that. And it sounds like this doesn't explicitly give this new VP any power to remove Pax so its a whole bunch of nothing.

Yeah, the Reinsdorfs would never do that and they're very loyal. Paxson either decides to step away or he sticks around. I have a better feeling about Boylen at least being dismissed right away. The players clearly don't like him and his record is trash.

I think Forman isn't that great a scout/exec. Yeah, he helped find Jimmy Butler, but I think Butler deserves a ton of credit for improving and turning himself into a legit star player. I think both Forman and Paxson wanted to draft Doug McDermott and that was a terrible pick.

I've heard the Reindorfs won't have a problem with the new hire firing Boylen and Forman, so that gives me some hope.

He sounds fine, but this whole search was still horribly embarrassing.

It's not over.

I'll wait for the whole process to be over before judging it. It's the Bulls so yeah, we'll probably learn some embarrassing details later on.

Man, I totally forgot about this. Almost felt like an insult to Scottie. That horsefeathers bust is terrible...

Most bronze busts are awful. That one isn't so bad, considering.

It's totally awful. It looks more like Bill Cosby than it does Pippen

Three more candidates leaked. All former GMs.

Two with a history or racially insensitive/offensive remarks.

A guy who trashed players on his burner Twitter account.

Why are they so horsefeathering bad at this?

they interviewed those guys (ferry, colangelo, and the atlanta dude) but karnisovas is the clear front runner and is up for his second interview. by all accounts, he wants the job badly and he supposedly had a great interview.

it would be terrible if one of those other guys was under serious consideration but it doesn't look like that's the case. i can only guess that they decided to do some due diligence (not sure why it had to be those jerks) and interview some people after the other 3 guys they wanted to interview were a no-go.

Karnisovas' diverse background in the game had captured the Bulls' attention from the start of this process, including his role in building the Nuggets into a contender with team president Tim Connelly and governor Josh Kroenke; stops with the Houston Rockets front office and league office; and a decorated EuroLeague and Olympic medal-winning playing career.

Karnisovas, a native of Lithuania, left home as a teenager to play college basketball at Seton Hall from 1990 to 1994.

If Karnisovas is hired, he's expected to be able to reshape the Bulls' front office, including hiring a new general manager, sources said.

Bulls president John Paxson is expected to move into an advisory role and there will be discussions with GM Gar Forman about his future with the organization, sources said.

Oh I'm not too too worried about those guys being hired. In fact, I think there are decent odds these three guys were candidates they threw together as face-saving interviews because they got rejected from 3 out of their initial 4 (or 5 depending on if Zanik was legit or not) and they didn't want it to look like they literally gave the job to the only guy who wanted it. And since they're all out of work, no worries of being blocked AGAIN.

But even in the context of "throw a few candidates out there to make it look like a real search", they really scraped the bottom of the barrel as far as optics go.

I'm cool with a guy who built a #2 seed in the West without any superduperstars (yes, I know Jokic is awesome) running the Bulls.

What a great day in Bulls history.

Sports radio hot take: Jim Boylen the true hero in all this. His comical inability to be an NBA head coach just highlighted the deeper systemic ineptitude of the people in charge. Giving that dude a horsefeathering EXTENSION after half a year that went laughably bad was the nail in the coffin for GarPax.

I'm good with the hire, but still lol bolls for going about this process 100% wrong.

What was 100% wrong?

I do think the token interviews they gave yesterday reached WTF levels like they almost went out of their way to pick the worst people imaginable.

Beyond that, I don't really see anything wrong with the search they conducted and how (impressively) quickly they acted.
