Is it possible that Willy was available and the Dodgers had a lefty up and Roberts was (probably) thinking that Montero was just coming up the the plate so that he'd bring in his lefty and then Joe would counter with Willy? So they both just stood pat waiting for the other to make there move and neither did.

Yeah you are almost certainly right. Contreras came in as a defensive replacement for Miggy immediately following the inning, and from rewatching that inning, I know Grant Dayton (lefty) was warmed up and ready to come in. Another factor in walking Cogs was that he was 8-17 lifetime against Blanton heading into that AB and I don't think Dayton was quite ready at that point. But regardless of everything else, the Intentional Walk was primarily to get Chapman out of the game. Just a pretty big gamble to put the go ahead runner at third in the 8th inning, especially when you are walking a guy who wasnt on a major league roster 2 months before and you are pretty much guaranteed to not get a good matchup with the next hitter.

That's right, I'd forgotten about Joe's Montero/Contreras chess game. As I recall, he tried that again later in the playoffs - can't remember which series - and his bluff got called and Montero made an out.

I can't remember the exact day, but the Geovany Soto (I think) 3 run HR to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th after the Cubs had 2 out and nobody on. Against the Brewers if I remember right. Someone can correct me if I have the details wrong.

I was actually so mad about them about to lose so I shut the radio off after two outs only to get a text from my brother minutes later.

I'll (almost) never turn off another game prematurely.

I tried to look for that HR earlier on YouTube and couldn’t find it. It was mid-Sept against the Brewers. The Cubs hadn’t clinched yet so the game wasn’t completely meaningless.

Believe DLee had a walkoff single in like the 11th to win it

Fun fact...I was at that game and left in the ninth to catch the train.

What, no love for Grandpa's big moment in his last game as a player?

This was something that I looked back on after and laughed. As in lmao David horsefeathering ROSS donged off of Andrew Miller in game 7 of the horsefeathering World Series!

After a throwing error and falling on his ass just a few minutes earlier, allowing the Indians to score 2 runs.

This thread seems like it'll be as successful as the injury threads given the dongless monsters we're dealing with.

This thread is already a rousing success

True; it will do nicely when we're starved for dongs in a few months.

Our new Kyle has officially arrived.

Old Kyle can finally get some rest. It’s been a heavy cross to bear for years and he understandably should rest.

Dammit, I invented the term "doom boner." I'VE BEEN HERE ALL ALONG.

Sorry Kyle will always be synnamous with doom boner in my mind. There’s no getting around that ever.
