The Bears opened as 4.5 point dogs and it is down to 3 now. The magic number for the division is also 3. This is a pretty big game and while Mitch has been hit or miss this year, I would really like to see him play since Chase has been so incredibly bad. The defense is going to have to show up.

My fantasy team is on a bye so go ahead and shut down Gurley.

I'm pretty sure if the Bears won and the Redskins, Panthers and Eagles all lost this weekend, the Bears could only be passed for a WC spot by the Redskins (who have clinched a H2H over the Bears). Given the Redskins QB issues, I think its safe to say that they will not finish 9-7.

Looking at remaining schedules

CHI: vs. LAR, vs. GB, @ SF, @ MIN

WAS: vs. NYG, @ JAX, @ TEN, vs. PHI

PHI: @ DAL, @ LAR, vs. HOU, @ WAS

CAR: @ CLE, vs. NO, vs. ATL, @ NO

Washington's is the easiest but they are the weakest team right now. Philly's is a murder's row, Carolina's is not much better, but the week 17 in NO might be much easier due to NO clinching everything they need to clinch, so looks quite a bit easier if the goal is to not lose twice (which would make it impossible to pass Bears).

How have the Redskins clinched a H2H against the Bears?

based on the remaining schedule, it looks like WAS has 2 remaining AFC games, while the Bears have completed their AFC schedule. Bears are 2-2 against AFC while WAS is 0-2. So, their 6 wins are all against NFC teams, and Bears also have 6 NFC wins. So, if WAS manages to win their last 3 games, to finish 9-7 and the Bears also finish 9-7, WAS will have 7 NFC wins and the Bears would have 7 as well. So you go past that tie breaker and probably end up at some sort of strength of schedule thing to get there.

Yeah its the common games tiebreaker that beats the Bears.

They are 4-0 in common games (wins over ARI, GB, TB and NYG) and the Bears are 2-2 and the only remaining game is Washington's second game against the Giants.

Edit: Also I don't know why I called it H2H, I just meant they clinched the tiebreaker, my bad

Just win the division

Yes that's certainly the goal and the number 1 focus. But since 4 of the last 5 competitive Bears teams had epic collapses to miss the playoffs, I'd feel more comfortable knowing that we clinched our spot in the dance and the Wild Card will likely be clinched sooner.

2008 - Just needed to beat a crappy Texans team to make it

2009 - Not competitive

2010 - Made the playoffs

2011 - Started 7-3 and finished 8-8

2012 - Started 7-1 and finished 10-6 and out of playoffs

2013 - Just needed to win one of last 2 games to make playoffs and lost both

2014 - Not competitive

2015 - Not competitive

2016 - Not competitive

2017 - Not competitive

Why is that supposed to be impressive? (unless you were just setting up Wade Phillips comments today). Half the guys he just named and said they've been doing it for a long time. Not exactly a scouting report.

I think the Phillips stuff is funny, as a sarcastic response to the overreaction to McVay listing guys. The go to NFL coach's move is to list a couple numbers, "we have to cover 87", "going to need to contain 93", "can't let 12 beat us".

I don't get this either. People were gushing about this yesterday.
