I really don't get all the commotion over the foul call at the end of the Virginia game. The refs missed the double dribble on Jerome right before that, sure. But Guy was pretty clearly fouled at the end because the Auburn player ran into his leg.

If the focus was on the double dribble, I wouldn't care. But it's on a call the referee got 100% correct.

Agree completely. I definitely think CBB 3 point shooters get more than their fair share of “fouls” that don’t actually occur. The foul on Guy wasn’t one of those times.

I detest that replay reversal on the ball being knocked out of bounds

Same here and I was rooting for Virginia. That was akin to the foot popping off the bag for a couple hundredths of a second but because the tag was kept on the runner, he's out. Like, technically the ball went off the Tech player but I don't think that's how replay should be used. Especially since there are instances where a guy gets hacked, the refs miss the foul call and the ball goes off the guy who got hacked so they give it to the team that committed the missed foul.

I contend that replay in ALL sports would be better if the people reviewing the play did not know the ref's original call.

I am not sure how I could have been more shocked by a CBB story this morning. Good for Beilin though. Really seems like a class act, as a MSU fan I will miss him. He made that rivalry a lot of fun the last few years

Super happy for John and even more appreciative of what he did for UM Basketball program which was in dire straights before his arrival. I am gutted though. I thought after he didn't end up in Detroit and signed a contract extension UM didn't have to worry about losing Beilein until his retirement. Program will take a hit, but hopefully they can either get someone like Brad Stevens (lol) or just hire Yaklich internally.

Damn :(

This sucks and probably costs Michigan a chance at landing Franz Wagner, Mo's little brother, who's a 19 year old stud in Europe.

I also don't trust Warde Manuel to hire anyone worth a horsefeathers. I'll shoot myself if they hire Lavall Jordan

Michigan apparently not interested in Donovan for some untold reason

realistically hoping for Gregg Marshall or Juwan Howard now otherwise just let Saddi Washington have the gig for the time being to keep some semblance of the roster in place and more importantly, Yaklich

Jalen Wilson has asked for a release from his Michigan LOI. I assume Kansas will be the choice here but I’m hoping he’ll give Texas A&M another look now that we hired Buzz Williams. I know Jalen’s mom and they weren’t really impressed by our previous coach Billy Kennedy.

god this is so terribly depressing. I've been purposely not letting all this sink in because if I start thinking about the short term and long term impact of Beilein's departure its pretty damn crushing They might make a home run hire and this is just a speed bump, but lets be serious - the more likely outcome is the program falling off to good but not great. I'm not even allowing myself to think of the scenario where UM goes back to the dark period between 99-08

Sounds like its either gonna be Shaka Smart or Juwan Howard. I'd roll the dice with Howard over Smart who is simply an awful actual coach riding his wave from a single FF run at VCU that was like 10 years ago.

If they hire Smart it will be just like hiring Ellerbe. Warde Manuel sucks

Yeah I'd 100% take Howard over Smart for a number of reasons. Wouldn't be a home run but his ties to Michigan and the fact that he probably wouldn't need to build a staff of 'his guys' from outside the program would probably keep whats left of the recruiting class there. The key is making sure Saddi and Yaklich stay on. I'm surprised Yaklich hasnt been sniffing around any head coaching jobs, which makes me think maybe he was hoping he'd stay with UM until Beilein retired and then take over. Maybe I'm just overrating Yaklich, but his stock/buzz couldn't be higher after being the 'defensive coordinator' of 2 elite defensive teams, plus I believe he was the lead recruiter on all of UM's top recruits this year and next. If he doesn't get the UM job (and he won't) I wouldn't be surprised if he bolted after next season (if not sooner)

At first I read this as you referring yourself in 3rd person and thought, “damn. This guy really loves Michigan sports”

I really do not understand either of these guys.

The first is highly over-rated and about as opposite of Beilein as you could get. Plus Texas is not some rinky dink school. Its not like Michigan is a step up for him in facilities and donors and such.

The second one was involved in one of the biggest scandals in NCAA history. Seems not like the best idea, especially going back to where the scandal happened.

I'm pretty sure Howard was not found to be involved in the scandal. He was even allowed to keep his all american honor despite the rest of UM's season and accomplishments being wiped out.

Unrelated not but to set the record straight, Jalen Rose was also not found to be involved.

Rose is on record admitting he took handouts from Ed Martin, just not the ammount Webber got. The "scandal" isn't really about the Fab 5, but Webber, Louis Bullock, Traylor, and Maurice Taylor. Bullock being the death knell
