I mean, we DID win 3 stanleys and just got our goalie back. How is it not possible with a young star or two of infusion that we could be good?

I

We don't really have depth, particularly defensively. It's the same story as the last decade, we are relying on Keith and Seabrook to log heavy minutes and they just arent the same players as before. Also while we've come out scoring quite a bit I don't see where consistent scoring is coming from outside of Debrincat, Kane and Toews. We do have some money to spend for once but I am pretty sure they intend to use a chunk of it to extend Debrincat.

They could be decent and make the playoffs, but legit good? I see too many holes.

The Blackhawks have also fired assistant coaches Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson. Barry Smith was named as an assistant coach on Colliton’s staff. The rest of the Blackhawks coaching staff will remain with the team.

It's hard to talk about coaching without sounding too much like a meatball sports fan, but...I'm fine with it. This team has all the motivation/veteran leadership they need sitting in the locker room already. What they need is someone to teach these fringe-y young players how to develop into reliable NHL players. At this point in Q's career, I can't really see that being up his alley, both in terms of his skill set and his interest level.

Whether it actually accomplishes anything in the short term...probably not. The team stinks (and some of that/a lot of that falls on Bowman, who made the decision today). But I guess it's worth a shot. I'm willing to bet this came with the blessing, either implicit or explicit, of Toews, Keith, etc.

I would have fired Bowman before Q, but I'm not super upset about this move. I would have been fine if they kept him too. Sometimes a new voice is a good thing, though I'm not sure any one coach is going to turn the talent on this roster into a playoff team.

They should've just done this in the offseason if it's what they wanted to do. Doing it now is pretty gross.

I'm not that upset with the coaching change....just with how it was done.

Bowman was just waiting for the first losing streak. I agree, why didn't they do it last April?

New coach is 33. 18 months younger than Duncan Keith

Yeah you can point out plenty of flaws for both Q and Bowman, especially over the last couple years, but I think the reality is this is pretty much an inevitably for a cap league dynasty team. You get as much success as you can out of your group of players, and then you are left with bloated contracts with money being paid for past performance. We got three of them, not going to complain about the downside of the slope.

this is pretty much where I'm at, but I keep pining for one last run out of the group.

Maybe 2021.

I don't think it was 100% unavoidable. There's a world out there where someone had the nerve not to sign Seabrook to a long extension. And as good as Crawford is, there's a reason we got so much mileage out of bad goalies when we were good.

But it was always going to be a very narrow path.
