9/2 Cubs (Lester) @ Fillies (Nala) 12:35 (pm) WGN

The air is suddenly less stale and carries a kind of excitement again. Every step I take comes with a bounce of vigor. Smiles come easily to my oft-wary face. Finally I can feel complete. The Cubs have won when I started a game thread! I nearly forgot that it was possible to have to start successive versions of these thingies...

Despite not wanting to mess with a good thing, I've decided to move on from Ren and Stimpy. Out of solidarity for a lot of young, female animators who worked for Spumco, I'm continuing on to other beloved animated shows of my youth.

Oh. I guess all of my cartoon shows were created by perverts. Explains a lot.

I've assumed Nola was pretty good from the get go. I'm sure some day he'll be the 5 WAR starting pitcher I imaged h....he's got a 2.10 ERA and he's worth 5.7 WAR already this year?! Seriously? That's ridiculous. Anyhow, Lester and his 0.7 WAR this year is totally going to pull this one out...because Lester plays for the Cubs, and the Phillies are a group of 40 something softball players who take weekend tournaments overly seriously. They can hit dingers, but make cartoonish errors every other inning. Entertaining stuff though.

Glad to see Happ have a day! The way things were going, we weren't too far from having a situation on our hands.

Today’s lineup makes me tingle.

Murphy 2B

Baez SS

Rizzo 1B

Bryant RF

Schwarber LF

Contreras C

Happ CF

Lester P

Bote 3B

Had a feeling we'd see Bryant in the OF some so Bote can get his PT...

Probably see more of it now with Heyward out..

Nice lineup today, let get a few early for Lester

Really wish they could've pulled out that game Friday night. I don't have much faith today, but ultimately it's fine. They can lose today and neither the Brewers or Cardinals would be able to catch the Cubs in the next series. But win today, beat the Brewers 2 of 3, and their season is pretty much over.

I went to bed thinking the VBs were going to win their game only to find out they lost. Lol, yesterday was a good day.

Cubs win

Mack

Cardinals lose

VBs lose

Notre Dame beat Michigan

Exactly.

When is it appropriate to change the name to the Haunted Brewers (HB's)?

Warning: rare optimism from Schwarber Fan...

Lester will match Nola today. He almost always does when there’s a stud SP on the other side. We’ll scratch this one out.

If the WC is gonna come out of the central, my preference is the Brewers.

Aren’t they currently 1.5 games into a wild card spot?

Friday night is big time annoying because it was super winnable, but the Cubs have been handling really good pitchers left and right lately, so writing off today already seems like jumping a bit far to a conclusion already.

Ah, forgot about the WC.

"Handling" seems a bit unfair also. They certainly didn't "handle" DeGrom and Scherzer by scoring 1 run on them in 15 innings. They survived them. My lack of faith is more in Lester than the offense.
