Two in a row?

giphy.gif

Today was a good day. Cubs won, Cardinals lost, Lester looked good and Happ hit his first homer in nearly a month (I assume he finally found the right person to sacrifice last night). This is an important one to win because it means we'll end up with a split since Sammy Sofa will be cursing the Cubs with his presence over the weekend, likely bringing the Cubs a pair of losses.

GO CUBS!

Last time I was in Pittsburgh they were giving out Jordy Mercer bobbleheads and they were, of course, giving away as many as each person could carry because it's a horsefeathering Jordy Mercer bobblehead and a Pirates game in Pittsburgh.

When I was at the Cubs game for the Baez bobblehead giveaway, it was a terrifying mob scene and my guest and I were barely able to escape with just one (and our lives).

The Cubs managed to lose both games.

I'm not sure what that all means. Hopefully nobody is giving out any bobbleheads.

And man, I'm still a little annoyed about the Baez bobblehead debacle; only 10k of the things (and most of their big giveaways) is dumb and bad*. Even BCB has the right take on this:

I was in the bleachers last July for the makeup game against the Brewers when they were giving away the Rizzo/KB bobblehead. It was hot as hell and I waited in line for several hours before the bleachers opened, was easily one of the first 3,000-4,000 or so people in the park, and they "ran out" of the bobbleheads before I got to the front of the line. Apparently, they only set a certain amount aside for the bleachers or something? Really dumb.

I went to that game too, in large part to get the bobblehead, and had no luck either. I suspect they handed out a bunch of them before the original game got rained out and probably didn't have many left for the make-up.

They said they ran out at the gate I entered on Baez Day and were yelling at people to keep moving and getting us past the barricades to keep it from becoming truly dangerous, even though there were boxes in the corner against the wall and barricades with a bunch of Roasts standing in front of them like they were successfully hiding them. I got ushered past the barricades, and then they started passing out and opening those other boxes within 2 minutes, and they wouldn't let anyone they had told to go through because they had supposedly run out of bobbleheads get one.

Given how obscenely expensive their tickets are, and with all of the construction/expansion they've done, to act like they can handle 10k max of any giveaway is shitty as hell.

As far as I remember, they never even opened the doors for the originally scheduled game.

Yuuup. The guy that sat behind us got in well after us and wound up with a bobblehead, I think because he was a season ticket holder. So, from what I gathered, they set aside a certain portion for the grandstands, another pile is set aside for season ticket holders, and then the dummies that line up early for the bleachers are horsefeathers outta luck. So, not really first 10,000.

But, yeah, the things cost like $3 to make. Maybe carve out a little bit more room in the budget to avoid riots.

horsefeathers, I was using my family's season tickets and we still got the shaft.

That said, we ended up giving the one we got away to the firs heartbroken kid we came across, and would have just done the same if we had actually gotten the second, too. Yeah, I wanted one, but I felt much worse for the kids that didn't get any because a bunch of manbabies and Trixies were losing their minds and knocking people out of the way to get their hands on them.

yeah. i'm not much of a merchandise collector at all. i used to own a sammy sosa bobblehead until its head bobbled right off, and that's about the extent of my bobblehead collecting history. the rizz/kb one was sweet, and it would have been cool to have, but i was more just baffled how poorly the whole thing was run. and they were immediately--like right after we found our seats in the bleachers--showing up on ebay for several hundred dollars.

*Despite having the best record in the NL

I read that article and despite you being correct that he has the right take, he still manages to sound like a pompous jackass several times as only Al can do.

People were selling the Baez ones on the spot for at least $100. I checked today out of curiosity on eBay after this came up and they're still going for at least $135. Madness.

Good on you to hand yours over to a kid! I have a bunch from the Cubs and Blackhawks over the years. At least the Blackhawks handed them out to the first 10K of a 20K seat stadium. I probably have about 15 bobbleheads from sporting events over the last 20 years and I wonder now why the hell I even bothered. I don't know why I would sit outside in line for 45 minutes on a January night with the temperature around 1 degree waiting for a Marian Hossa bobblehead that never left its box. Especially seeing that most of the people were douche canoes waiting to make $50-$200 on Ebay. Maybe I will hand them over to my two sons when they get older but chances are they won't give a flying horsefeathers about them anyway.

I have a sweet Sosa one in my office. Got it at a game that they opened the stadium for even though it rained for like nine hours straight. We sat there for two hours before they called the game so we went home with no game but two bobble heads.

Joe stinks.

Outside of no Bote and Willy (who might be hurt) I actually kinda like the lineup if those are the 8 position players he’s gonna play.

It still was monumentally dumb to sign Duensing And not use his money to sign a real backup catcher like Rivera, Avila, etc. Caritini shouldn’t be on the team and playing until September is here and we have the division won.

I don’t know if it’s a traditionalist thing or if there’s any logic behind it but I don’t like the pitcher hitting 8th thing. The lineup just looks unpleasant that way too me

It's all about Bote; nobody is going to convince me that Bote at 3B, Baez at SS and Zobrist at 2B is some kind of crippling downgrade in defense that necessitates Russell starting instead.

Watching this sabercast of the Mets/Phillies games. I love me some Brian Kenney, even back to his days of making Floyd Mayweather look foolish. Would love to see him sit in with Len and JD for a game.

That lineup is garbage
