I remember that game. We were questioning why Morrow was coming in after the Cubs broke it open and it was explained that he was already warmed up or something and I want to say that Edwards and/or Cishek was also unavailable that game because of overuse.

So do we blame Joe for warming him up, the offense for not scoring on the crappy Mets bullpen until the 14th or the starters for forcing the pen to be overused?

All of the above. Was that the Farrell game he went like 6 scoreless?

What a stupid way for it to happen, assuming that’s rigjt. Hopefully he doesn’t need a surgery or it’s a Darvish level clean out type deal.

Joe. We blame Joe.

cubs only used three other relievers that game (one was mazzoni, another was Farrell for five innings). it is just mind blowing how many games the cubs went into knowing that multiple guys were unavailable. maddon absolutely sucks at the bullpen.

We could probably place some blame on the people who signed the pitcher who is always hurt.

So who is in the NLDS bullpen?

Wilson

Montgomery

De la Rosa?

Edwards

Cishek

Chavez

Then either Kintzler, Rosario, maybe Webster if he impresses, or Strop (I'd be stunned) for the last spot?

Maybe next time don't spend $10M a year on the guy who you have to baby the horsefeathers out of to get down to a 70/30 chance he's going to get hurt

The signing itself was fine, IMO, but they REALLY dropped the ball by acting like they only needed to prop up the bullpen in-season with the likes of horsefeathering Kintzler.

How I feel too. Don’t pitch Morrow until after the ASB next year and add 1-2 RPs through trade/FA of Cishekish level. Preferable a younger, controllable one in a trade for the surplus after Bryce signs.

Chavez and De La Rosa.

Honestly forgot about Chavez, so that was a good call, but De La Rosa is just one of those "throw something at the wall and see if it sicks" moves. And, hey, he has for now. But between Carl being Carl and Morrow's health, I would have preferred a move for a better bullpen piece on top of those.

Of course, they did that last year and they got cursed with 2017 Justin Wilson, so who the horsefeathers even knows.

What I dont get is how the injury is a deep bone bruise? That doesnt seem pitching related.

Hit by a ball, fell down, bar fight.. maybe.

But how do you get a deep bone bruise that keeps you out since july 18th without some contact?

He probably has that same stress reaction type deal Darvish had/has and they either fucked up the diagnosis again or were trying to let the rest take care of it and it never did.

We blame Joe for not putting in Rizzo as promised.

Yep. Morrow was the best option considering the finances of staying under the luxury tax. They should've been more aggressive at the deadline.

chavez was an inspired pickup who i routinely forget about when im angsting about brandon funking kintzler but miss me with the de la rosa stuff. he sucks.

De La Rosa has been great in 17 appearances for the Cubs, to the point where I'm almost expecting him to be on the postseason roster in the pen. Looking at the options:

Strop (if healthy)

Edwards

Cishek

Wilson

Chavez

Monty

Rosario

De La Rosa

Kintzler

Garcia

Chatwood

Mills

Maples

I'd say Edwards, Cishek, Wilson, Chavez and Monty are locks, with Strop in if healthy, and the back of the pen going to 1 or 2 of Rosario, De La Rosa and Kintzler.

I'd take De La Rosa over Kintzler every damn day of the week.

Dudes like that implode at a moment's notice. That you hope to get anything out of someone like him isn't the same as actually going after someone likely to bolster bullpen. It's mostly a happy accident that DLR has inexplicably been THAT good.
