Man, how is that even possible? If anything, I remember him as being even worse than he was. It made me so mad that Dusty kept him in the rotation all year.

estes gave up 4 or more runs in 14 of his 29 starts as a cub. he walked 83 in those 29 starts.

to compare, chatwood has given up 4 or more runs in 7 of his 19 starts and walked 85 in those 19 starts.

estes had a bWAR of -1.3 in 2003 while chatwood has a current bWAR of 0.3.

are estes and chatwood the worst cub starters of the past 20-25 years?

Ruben Quevedo and Amaury Telemaco were both less than stellar.

man when amaury took that no hitter into the 8th in his debut, i thought for sure he was destined for the HOF

Edwin Jackson in 2014.

6-15, 6.33 ERA, -2.3 bWAR in 140.2 IP.

Jesus H Christ I forgot how absolutely terrible Jackson was that year.

Fun fact, I basically called Mike Minor's HR off Jackson from the bleachers that year ("if Minor's ever going to hit a HR, it'll be off Edwin" 2 pitches before he went deep).

What does a bump in velocity tell us though? that he's suddenly throwing harder because he's on the Cubs or that hickey helped him adjust something that has given his velocity a big bump/more spin and movement?

Couldn't it also be that he's had some extended time off since his last start?

and somehow dude is still pitching in MLB

Jackson arguably had the two worst seasons as a starter for the Cubs over the last 25 years. If you go by bWAR, his 2013 (-1.4) was also worse than Estes’s 2003 (-1.3). Justin Germano, Chris Volstad and Glendon Rusch all also had seasons in that -1.3, -1.4 range.

Jackson’s somehow actually been pretty good through 7 starts with Oakland this year.

It’s pretty amazing that Hamels pitched as well as he pitched for that many innings for some really good teams, and only has 153 career wins.

From ‘06 to ‘11 Hamels averaged a 3.39 ERA and 194 innings a year, but only 9 wins for Phillies teams that averaged 93 wins a year during that time.

He had a 2.79 ERA over 216 innings for the ‘11 team that won 102 games, and only went 14-9.

Reason #6743 that pitchers’ won loss records are dumb.

Love me some Cole Hamels, that muh can pitch

It was awesome watching him yesterday, such a pro. Stark contrast to the anxiety-filled meltdowns we got from Chatwood.

You figure Cole is energized going to a contender and my guess is going for one more contract? Looks to me like he's got something left in the tank.

And now that Chatwood isn't ruining every fifth day for me I can stop hating him and hope he gets his horsefeathers together. No way do I want this guy taking up a rotation spot ever again, though.

He didn't allow any runs in his second start either iirc.

his face is a weird mix of actors bill hader, josh hamilton, jon hamm and braves legend dale murphy. feel like i'm looking at one of those morphing face gifs.

I thought he looks like a skinny Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead era.

I did this with Jeff Pico.

With the talk of bringing back Wilson, I had a Felix Heredia flashback.

Of all the trades made at the break, has Hamels been the best so far? 18 innings, 2 runs, 0 XBH

And it looked like such low key acquisition
