Same thing with the 3-PT Shooting Contest in the NBA.

This is blasphemy. The 3-point contest is by far the best part of All-Star weekend.

Who would you guess the betting favorite is?

It's not who you would expect

Well, if he was the biggest dog I'm sure there were some sharps that had a hand in the line moving...and then the bookies might just be banking on some people betting their favorite player (right, Cub fans) at bad odds just to hedge for the screw up of having him as such a longshot to begin with.

Apparently they moved to a timed round format rather than the "until 10 outs" format. I don't know when that happened since I haven't watched the derby in a few years, but that sounds like an excellent change.

i actually hate the format change

i'd prefer they not rush so they can launch as many majestic dongs as possible

Always seemed like the old format led to the guys being tired by the last round though.

You know they hit more homers in this format than they used to, right? Last year the lowest round was 10. The year before only one guy hit fewer than 10 in a round. In 2015 there were four rounds of less than 10 but the lowest was 8. In 2014, the last year of the old format, only one guy hit 10 in a round. One of the semifinals finished 1-0 (both guys used all 10 outs).

The best derby’s are when there cool things to hit monster dongs off of. Sammy hitting every part of Miller Park was fun as hell. I expect to be bored but definitely watching for schwarber and javy

So glad Chris Berman doesn't do this anymore so I don't have to hear horsefeathers like "BACK BACK BACK ALL THE WAY TO ANNAPOLIS"

Random idea that won't ever happen...let the home tv announcers for the ASG host ballpark call the home run derby.

Think of how boring it would be to be the PBP guy in a home run derby.

Absolutely, but probably much less so for local home announcers on a national broadcast, getting to talk up their team, their city, their ballpark.

i despise everything about chris berman, but the familiarity with those stupid calls that goes back to me watching these dumb things when I was 10 or 11 makes me not hate that one in particular

kind of like how i sorta miss morgan and miller on sunday night baseball despite them saying inane nonsense all game purely off of nostalgia for the sound of it.

I’m sure he’s a dummy but I like John millers baseball calling voice.

Oh I'm in agreement. Was just making a comment in general. A bit part of the excitement of a homer is that it's unexpected. In the derby, it's gotta be somewhat annoying for those guys!
