That headline saying they're "in talks" is pretty misleading. They're in talks in so much as Sinclair would love to do it, and MLB is like GTFO.

Just to confirm, does launching a streaming service mean that they will put the station from cable providers and only allow you to access the network via streaming or just streaming in addition to cable?

I would imagine that it would be in addition to, not instead of.

As always, the Ricketts timing is impeccable.

Correct, this is an attempt to suck in people who don't want to pay for all of cable but would still like to pay a sizable fraction of that for basically one sports team.

The only market for this would be within the Cubs' blackout zone as MLB.TV, as of now, barely costs any more than Marquee as proposed would by itself.

I don't know....access to the 3 documentaries they play 400 times a year and the 8 episodes of Cubs Top 10 or whatever is quite the value add, not to mention the 3 hour betting show and the occasional tennis match.

Would be cool if a streaming service added a bunch of classic games you could watch whenever but I imagine the MLB would allow that.

I don't think the price is unreasonable. $108 for the six month regular season. I'd pay that if I didn't already have Marquee through my provider. The MLB one team package (for out of market) is $90.

Yeah. I'm about to move and this plus Hulu is about $20 per month less than Comcast's middle tier package. I'll probably make the change if we get some more indication this will be available for this season.

This legitimately shocks me as Boog got a lot of criticism for his national TV commitments making him a partial announcer and JD's frequent disappearances made it seem like he was on the way out.

Yeah I was very worried about losing JD. This is incredible news.

People are speculating on twitter that customer feedback may have saved him. Don't know how true it is but it does seem like Cubs fans appreciate him a lot more than people at Marquee.

If that's the case... consider it a victory for common sense. Surprising when you think about who owns the team.

Yeah, I legitimately can't believe JD stayed. Hopefully that Twitter theory about customer feedback is accurate. Boog is Boog, rock-solid, and I'm glad he's sticking around too.

Didn't JD miss a little bit of time with a health issue? I kind of wonder if that was worse than we were ever made aware of. That would explain a lot of the weirdness around him last year.

One of his absences was definitely a health issue but he was in and out most of the year. Could have been a recurring health issue, but it really felt like most of last year they are auditioning JD's replacement whether it was because they didn't like him or because they were concerned his health wouldn't have allowed him to continue. Either way, re-upping for multiple years tells me that if it was an issue, its probably not anymore.

I’m glad he’s staying but I don’t think he had to be saved by the fans. I think he was sick last season and he probably also enjoyed some time off with other people being able to sub in for him. Prior to the lockout Marquee had a regular off-season show, and he was a big part of that. Definitely didn’t seem like he was being buried and on the way out.

Obviously not a long term absence but I believe his kid got married and he was out for that. Maybe some health stuff but he also could have just asked off for a lot of time last year, too.

Either way he’s the best and this is amazing news.

My opinion is that the Cubs could do better than a part-time PBP guy with the reputation of being a nice guy. Boog is just ok, but I'd prefer not having a roving band of fill-in guys. I know a long-time radio guy who would be perfect for the job who works in the next both over.

I really hope he agreed to scale back on national commitments when signing the extension. I like Boog but I don't like having a PBP guy that misses ~40 games a year.

Are you referring to Pat Hughes? He'd be awful on tv. And he'd spend the entire broadcast hawking one of this scam side projects.

He wasn't awful last year. His first game was a little rough, but he got better.

Did he miss that many? My recollection was that he pretty much only missed Sunday afternoon games. Maybe he took a whole weekend off once or twice.

Maybe not. My perception was that there was almost always a backup in the booth but i guess that's also JD's frequent absences that played into it.
