I have YoutubeTV, but also just downloaded the Marquee app. Hoping that they were going to partner with a big company that one of my friends or family used, and then would just steal their password. Probably just going to stick with that plan unless someone here tells me that it's dumb.

What's the best way to get that from the internet to my Roku/TV? Enough experience getting it on a computer to know how to find them on reddit.

This happens every time there are negotiations. Let’s see where they are in a few weeks.

That's what I am thinking. Or i might just spend the rest of my days like my grandfather listening to the games on the radio like its 1947

If you're not familiar with Kodi, it's probably just as well to find a stream on a phone/tablet/laptop and learn the way to cast it to your TV. I don't do much of that but I think Rokus in particular have made some recent improvements so it's a less sketchy process. Chromecasts/Android TV are the gold standard here thanks to Google's clout.

Marquee Sports recently agreed to pay $132 million a year on average for the rights to Cubs games, or more than double the previous deal. The network stands to lose about $100 million a year in subscriber revenue from the blackout on Comcast, based on a $5-a-month price. Even a settlement at less-than-ideal terms could force the network to “dramatically trim its revenue outlook,” Ranganathan said.

I admittedly have no idea how Marquee's lack of carriage could affect the Cubs' revenue, but 'more than double' sure shoots a hole in the idea that 'this network isn't an immediate money boost and that's why we have to sit out another off-season'.

The other thing you can do is configure a VPN on a router and connect your streaming device (Roku) to that router. That will allow you to watch the games on MLB.tv - assuming you have an MLB.tv subscription.

It takes a little bit of investment and work to setup, but I can vouch for it working very well. My setup is a 2nd router on my network with a VPN connected to a server in Mexico. Then I connect my Roku's to that router to stream games in market.

I do have to reconfigure the router quite often (once a week-ish) to keep it connecting to the VPN servers, but it takes less than a minute to update each time.

While it isn't ideal, it gets the job done if these companies can't get their act together by opening day.

I downloaded the marquee app, planning on using my in laws DirecTV login, it is not available yet to direct tv subscribers to use the app. I guess that is the route i will take when the regular season starts

To be fair, the article says it's more than double per year on average; they don't say what it is for next season.

I was confident in Comcast getting a deal done for Marquee, but if Sinclair is attempting to bundle it together in a larger deal involving all their RSN's, that could really muddy the waters.

I think it is pretty clear that the current RSN model is not sustainable, and providers are increasingly pushing back on carriage demands for those channels

The question is, will this be the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces change, or will both sides cave enough to make a deal and kick the can down the road.

If? That was the entire point of them getting involved.

The problem though is how much of the 132 million is actual new money coming in? Not sure the actual ownership breakdown but i'd say at least half of that 132 million being paid to the Cubs is them paying themselves through Marquee.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to in the first half of the post; the Cubs having an ownership stake complicates the revenue picture. Still, from that nugget, it looks like at a minimum they should be netting what they did before as far as TV money.

We have been talking seriously about switching to YouTube TV, but the loss of the RSN's is killing that idea. Marquee isn't a problem for me, as I'm out of the blackout range, but losing local sports is a sticking point (even with MLB.TV, it would mean losing nearly 40 games of the season between Reds and Pirates blackouts).
