Russell plays that ball a lot better. I know Javy has the better arm so he can sit back and trust it, but Russell plays that ball a ton better and “rounds it” so he has momentum taking him to first, instead of just waiting back and having to back foot it which opens up a lot more room for error.

He didn't beat he throw to 1st. The complaint was that the 3B ump said that he swung when clearly he did not. Because of the delay in getting the erroneous call, Lester did not get a headstart on running to first (and why would he, it shouldnt have even been a question whether he swung).
