Has a pitcher ever been pulled for a reliever when the next batter with 2 outs is a pitcher? Much less one with one career hit?

But at least we didn't have people telling us he had some mythical upside like Chatwood.

He does if he goes back to his career walk norms.

Color me skeptical that a two time TJS recipient is going to regain his previously terrible control. It's a myth that he can just fix it.

It would be shocking that he could get back to his normal terrible control, more in line with his most recent two seasons? I don't think it would be shocking. Dude has to figure it out, of course.

lol now he's pissing willy off

If Willy murders him (we'll frame someone else) what does that do for the luxury tax?

We can't trust Willson to frame someone

He's had one season where his BB% was under double digits and he has never ever been above average as a major leaguer.

You know Willy hates his guts

Yes, probably. Would have been nice if Willy would have decided to actually come within 3 feet of hitting the ball on strike three in his at-bat with a guy at 3rd.

Alzolay has been garbage, but there are plenty of MLB-quality relievers in Iowa if they want to move Montgomery to the rotation.

With the off day Thursday, if they don’t feel the other SPs need extra rest. they could just skip Chatwood’s start this next time through to try and give him a “reset” and he’d have like 8 days off until his next turn up and the other starters would just be on normal rest.

Lol wut? I don't see the connection. Are you saying if Willson had made contact (regardless of outcome) Chatwood would not be a trainwreck?

Make up an injury and bring Alzolay up

Sounds terrible, just let Montgomery start

You won't be happy with Montgomery either, though, true?

Rather see Montgomery than Chatwood. Same with Eddie Butler wherever the hell he is. Alzolay needs way more time at AAA.

No connection. Two disparate thoughts. Both true.

That’s all we really are asking for though. A return to his high 3s/mid 4s BB/9 numbers. That already higher walk totals should’ve been the baseline with hoping for some improvements, not this nonsense

No one needs him to be an 'above average' major leaguer, whatever stats you're using to determine that. We've got four starters who are clearly better that are all signed for multiple years. There's an upside that's admittedly very hard to see right now, and there's a track record of being an effective fifth starter.

If you think that he's going to finish this year as some historic anomaly of lack of control, sure. But his career, and 120+ years of baseball history says his walk rate will come down.

I was on the ESPN broadcast hoping for 2016 WS flashbacks every few minutes...so much for that. They just blamed the brick wall for Melky not catching that ball, not the fact that it was scalded, the sun is brutal, or (most importantly) Melky is a terrible defender in his second game this year.
