Do it Theo

Some combination of Happ, Almora, Monty, Caritini and non-Amaya prospects should get it done. If they want major league pieces.

Teams probably prefer not to trade ML pieces at deadline if contending. But if Theo was willing to trade Nomar at the deadline, even if it was 14 years ago, you can never rule it out with him.

In a move that quietly got him Big Papi, right?

Nope, he was already there. Mienkewitz and Orlando Cabrera. (Or Hudson?)

No, Papi was a free agent the year before that. Nomar got him Mientkeiwicz, Orlando Cabrera, and I think a reliever.

i remember talking myself into orlando cabrera in the weeks leading up to the trade, because i didn't believe we would actually get nomar. and then cabrera ended up being really good for like 4-5 years after that.

I want Britton, but he has enough question marks that we don't need him specifically. That being said I do want someone better than Brach. He was very good for a while but currently looks like a perfectly fine 7th inning guy and not much more.

Is it ignorant of me to not want Britton?

I realize he's still working his way back, but he seems like a dude who could get annoying really quickly (although fit in with some of our staff) with his control issues. I'd rather keep our prospects instead of getting this specific player, unless the cost is really low. But that likely won't be the case with so many teams interested.

No. He's still not quite right and trying to work his way back up with his velocity and stuff. He's perfectly fine right now. But unless we had assurances that he's definitely going to get *close* to Prime Britton, I think the cost will be too much. And there are no assurances of that to be had.

Wheeler, Conley, Pressly, Gausman are the top 4 targets for me right now and I’d have Almora available for most of them as my top/highest piece along with any non-Amaya prospect. I agree about not really caring for Britton. Edited by Cubswin11

Whew! I now seriously feel less dumb about my meh attitude towards Britton. TBH the only thing that excited me about dealing w/ the O's was the possibility of obtaining IFA money as a part of any deal.

Not at all. and I want him. The glass half full version though is that his velocity came back at the start of July. and since then he's basically been back to normal. But because of the salary and the risk involved, the prospect cost shouldn't be too high.

It's kind of like Justin Verlander last year. He had a disaster start on July 2nd, that left his ERA at 4.96 and xFIP at 5.03. From then on he was JUSTIN VERLANDER again, but it still required a leap of faith to trade for him. Even at the end of August he had only been good again for 8 weeks. Sometimes it works out, but quite often it doesn't.

horsefeathering vomit at the idea of trading albert almora for kevin gausman.

Is that suggested somewhere? I haven't seen any specificity to Gausman/Bundy rumors.

As for Hamels, on one hand he's definitely been hurt by the funhouse at Arlington like Chavez. On the other hand, absolutely not.

I'm just glad it appears we're very serious about adding a starter. It seemed like we were concentrating too much on relievers, based on some of the articles.

I’m petrty sure I’d do Almora for Gausman and Britton. Especially if they feel getting out of the ALE and away from the Orioles pitching fuckery gives Gausman a bump. I’d prefer to go a different route (Wheeler). But I’d do that at the end of the day.

Given the emphasis on bullpens in the playoffs, I’d rather devote resources to the bullpen to make it as strong as possible for October. But I think the rotation has reached the point where we need to throw away some useless prospects to get a guy who will eat innings for the rest of the regular season.

Although, if we could get Wheeler & Lugo with only Almora leaving the MLB team, then that would be awesome.
