Longest World Series game by 4 innings.

Longest World Series game by time by an hour and 39 minutes.

Tied for the longest playoff game ever at 18 innings with 2014 NLDS Game 2 and 2005 NLDS Game 4.

This is the type of game that makes the recent trend of "bullpenning" fall apart. Yes, its super rare for a game to go this long, but the tendency to pull starter early (who aren't struggling) just to play super specific matchups is bordering on silly.

And yes, I know, pulling Porcello in the 5th is not what cost the Red Sox this game, I get it, but it's a trend that I don't personally like

I would rather get stuck with subpar relievers throwing multiple innings very late in extra innings on the few occasions it occurs, in exchange for the many games of having the better matchups deciding games in regulation.

The problem with baseball today is that managers do not manage the 4th inning with the 18th inning in mind.

Xactly. Much more efficient to lose by 3 in regulation than giving yourself a better chance but losing in 18.

Yes, definitely better to pull your pitcher who has given up 1 run in 4 2/3 IP to make sure you get a matchup where the batter has a 0.07 worse batting average

Rodriguez should have been able to go 75% and gotten to second safely. Could have killed a potential big inning.

Yeah, he wasn’t HBP on the leg.

Nothing like the World Series to remind you the NL needs the DH.

ETA: I know about that he ankle injury but he’s clearly healthy enough to try running in that situation.
