Don’t know if it was mentioned in the previous pages, but anyone remember the last time a Cub hit the first pitch of the first MLB game on Opening Day for a HR?

Hint - it was at Riverfront Stadium.

For a very long time, the Reds always were the first game of the MLB season. In 1982 the Cubs faced the Reds and Mario Soto. Bump Wills (son of Maury) deposited the first pitch of the MLB season over the fence. Incidentally, this was Ryne Sandberg’s first game as a Cub. Cubs went on to win 3-2 in 8 innings.

The year I graduated from high school. So long ago, they didn't even play 9 innings back then. I remember Ryne going hitless for his first 1000 at bats, or so it seemed. Wasn't a whole lot to cheer about since they hadn't had a winning season in a decade. The excitement and eventual letdown of 1984 wasn't even a vision in 1982, but Jody Davis and Ryne Sandberg gave Cubs fans reason to be excited about the future.

When you first posted that, I was gonna joke that I probably wasn't even alive yet, but, yeah, I wasn't alive yet.

She was fantastic in the show, and really important to Tony's character development in the early seasons (maybe just season 1, it's been a while). I'm not on board with this nonsense - she's not a bad character because she made you feel icky.

I mean, her name was Livia for a reason. In a show about Italians, that can't be coincidence.
