Because relievers who throw hard do so because they know they only have to throw like 20 pitches, if that, not 100. If Hader was a starter he would not be throwing high 90s gas all the time unless he wanted a short career

He also doesn’t have a third pitch and loses velo quick. Most of his 2 inning outings he’s throwing noticeably slower in the 2nd inning/once he hits about 20 pitches. Now I agree he probably should’ve been given a chance to start 2-3 years ago before a permanent pen move, because who knows maybe he is Sale 2.0 but they needed him in the pen to win now and he likely doesn’t work as a starter but a small market team like them I’m surprised they didn’t give it a shot to see if they had a top-mid rotation starter internally.

Updated for “accuracy” as he misquotes and puts words in another man’s mouth. For shame, Mojo.

did you guys know ramirez's highest fwar season was with the brewers?

This is how you know fWAR isn't to be trusted

Looking at it, it’s only 1 of 2 years he ranked positive defensively and had his solid offensive year (his offensive numbers that year weren’t much different than any other solid year he had). The other year he ranked positive defensively was with us in 2017 but he missed 30 games. If he plays his typical amount of games that year that would’ve been his best year ever.

Imagine if our offense was so fortunate to have *checks notes* the Reds pitching

Looking at the Reds and Pirates numbers vs. everyone else and its almost as if those two teams are playing a totally different sport

Corbin Burnes' struggles right now are super interesting. I'm generally an xFIP guy, and by xFIP he's actually been pretty good. However, 58% of his fly balls have left the yard so far. That's insanity. John Lackey's last year when we all hated him was 18%. Like there's clearly bad luck at play here, but even over a small sample I didn't think 58% could happen. Like it can't *just* be bad luck at this point. Is he tipping pitches?
