Here's some juicy assistant coach speculation to hold us over until we hear about Fangio.

So keep the band together except Fox and Loggains. Alrighty then.

Eh, Nagy already has to fill OC, RB, and OL coaches. I wouldn't dismiss Ragone out of hand as he was also QB coach in 2016 when Barkley almost looked like an NFL QB and Hoyer had a career year. And Mitch developed pretty well.

It figured the Bears would seek a coach with an offensive background, even though that same approach had disastrous results when Marc Trestman was tabbed as the guy five years ago. It figured the Bears would seek a younger coach, the kind of guy with energy and charisma to command a room.

Nagy, 39, checks those boxes. He becomes the 10th member of the Andy Reid coaching tree to become a head coach and the sixth to hold such a position currently. Reid’s previous offensive coordinator, Doug Pederson, departed two years ago to become the coach of the Eagles and they’re 13-3 with the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

One NFL assistant who has worked with Nagy and Pederson called Nagy the better coach and said his interpersonal relationships with players were superior. He called Nagy a “rock star” in the making as he heads to Halas Hall. That sounds like a dramatic change for the Bears when it comes to the front man who spends the most time spreading the team’s message.

and then...

And why was he convinced that hitching his wagon to Trubisky and Pace was the thing to do?

On that last question, Childress has his guesses, knowing the belief Nagy had in Trubisky during last year’s pre-draft process. As the Chiefs dug deep into their own quarterback homework, Childress recalls the parade of prospects they visited with — Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, Deshone Kizer and Chad Kelly among them.

The quarterbacks watched as a handful of plays were installed and detailed on the whiteboard. The prospects took notes. They watched videos of the concepts.

After a break, the quarterbacks were asked to recall everything in detail, needing to be precise with the drops and the route splits and depths and how certain reads converted against different coverages. Trubisky’s aptitude stood out.

“You want to know ‘What can this kid retain? What can he detail and process?’” Childress said. “Everything from snap count to changing plays at the line. Trubisky was a very good interview in that way.

“Matt still had his notes from that interview. I know that. Whether he presented those to Ryan or Mr. McCaskey, I don’t know. But I know he has a feel for Mitch. They won’t be strangers.”

By the way, Biggs (in one of those articles I linked above) mentioned that if Fangio leaves, Gus Bradley is a name they might be interested in.

Edit - I just realized we'd probably have to go back to a 4-3 base for this. Eh.

I think DB style/coverage matters way more than front 7 alignment (based on the players we have and the Fangio system)

Here's a snippet.

Intelligence

The most important aspect for a coach for me is simple: Is he dynamic? Not just as a coach, but as a person. As a schemer, Nagy was able to implement and coach his quarterbacks in one of the more unique offenses in the NFL. He’s coached everything from spread to the West Coast the last several years. Implementing an offense for Trubisky will not be an issue for Nagy because he has coached it all. I would expect the Bears to be a very enjoyable watch in 2018.

But Nagy is also just a really smart guy. That is important in a league full of coaches who are over their heads. For example, John Fox just wasn’t dynamic enough. Clearly, I’m just preaching to choir for Bears fans with that statement. That won’t be an issue with Nagy.

I probably speak for anyone who knows Matt Nagy, but I am now an official Bears fan. You guys just got a stud.

As an outsider, non Bears fan, looking in this seems like a really solid hire (even with all the gushing/positive spin articles that typically come with a new hire).

That's quite the sultry once-over he gives Turbojetski. You do you, Nagy.

Like you aren’t trying to get into his pants as we speak, you selfish person you.

Who, Tobolowsky? Nah, he's funky. But Nagy's got something working for him....
