You're not a dumb person, so I'm not sure how you can't scroll up and see that I mentioned Kelly and Manziel in response to Omar's statement about Antonio Brown being in the XFL. When the league started adding players people were joking (not just me) that it'd be a league that could feature some fun QB matchups with talented headcases like Manziel or Kelly going against each other. However, at the time the XFL had a "no previous criminal record" policy. I've since learned they've rescinded that policy.

 

And the bet was clearly about him starting in the NFL.

It’s just that you tend to vastly overestimate the extent to which anyone outside of Mississippi (or even Ole Miss alumni) give a horsefeathers about Chad Kelly or any other Ole Miss players not good enough to start in the NFL.

The man yelled at Kelly to get out and hit him in the back with a vacuum tube. Police surveillance video showed a man wearing dark pants, a white long-sleeved shirt with a brown vest, and a red scarf around his neck entering the front door.

Have I mentioned other football players from Ole Miss who aren't in the NFL? Also, when have I just randomly inserted him into a conversation where he didn't belong? Last time I brought him up was during a discussion about the Colts backup QB's when Luck suddenly retired. Considering he was one of those backups, I think it was fair to bring him up.

 

Hell, the starting QB of the St Louis team that is playing right now is an Ole Miss guy who I've never even mentioned on this board.

It's not that extreme. Kelly has the fourth most single season yards of any player in SEC history, behind Manziel's two seasons and Burrow's 2019.

 

Manziel put up 907 yards in his two games against Saban's D and Kelly put up 826 yards. That's the second most yards any QB has ever put up against a Saban defense. In fact, only 1 other player has ever gone above 700 yards in two games against a Saban D: Drew Brees with 811 yards when Saban was at Michigan State.

 

Not that it matters for anything, but he had the highest score of any QB ever tested by Sports Science.

In his only full season of college he had the 4th highest QBR in the nation ahead of the likes of Mahomes, Watson, Goff, and Mayfield.

 

Kelly ended up being drafted dead last because his criminal record prevented him from participating in the combine, his senior year was cut short due to an ACL tear, and he couldn't participate in Pro Day because he has surgery on his throwing wrist.

 

If he was some squeaky clean dude with no character or injury concerns, there's no reason he wouldn't have been a first round pick with the numbers he was putting up in college (Paxton Lynch was a first round pick for God's sake). Bill Polian said he was the most talented QB in his draft class, but that his character concerns would likely have him go undrafted.

 

So no, it's really not that extreme to compare two QB's who beat the hell out of SEC competition, sit next to each other in the SEC record books, and are complete head cases.

Yet he's STILL in the NFL for some reason...could it be that he has enormous talent?

 

Last year the Colts would activate him for games for the sole reason of keeping other teams from poaching him from their practice squad. He was basically on behavior probation last year.
