Someone twitter suggested that the best way for this to be a success is to start with small venues...maybe make it an arena league. I tend to agree.

 

Make it a league for players that don't want to go to college and pretend to be a student but instead want to get paid something like $50k a season to play football in the hopes of later playing in the NFL.

 

Something like this is interesting as a thing that could work, especially because the NCAA sucks but I think the minor league football concept only ultimately works because of the tradition engraned into college football

 

What would happen is that a lot of the mid majors would drop football while all the players that wanted the college experience will play Division III and actually be scholar athletes or play for the BCS conferences which will still have teams. It would be a great excuse for all the schools that have been looking for an excuse to drop perennially terrible football programs. Whether anyone would care to watch this league is hard to say. People seem to like going to minor league baseball games since they're more affordable ticket wise and develop some level of local spirit.

Yeah, when more and more science is saying football is bad for the brain and people are starting to turn from the sport makes it a difficult time to try a new league. Obviously the thought is people are turning from NFL itself and not football in general but when younger people are playing less and less I don’t see that as the case

The uniforms, camera angles, announcers, tv graphics, etc., all appear pretty professional. The AAFL just looked amateur as hell and couldn’t be taken seriously because of it. This looks “NFLish” enough to watch. The 25 second clock is nice too.

 

Also, it looks like they are playing in MLS stadiums, which is a good size for sound and aesthetic purposes. AAFL was in huge old stadiums and you could hear the PA guy’s voice just echoing off all the empty seats.

 

Also, the games being on Fox and ABC are going to help with some legitimacy. Vince did a one year deal with all the networks where it’s free for them to broadcast the games. So the XFL is getting no TV money.
