If we do end up with all 3 of Chatwood, Cobb, and Morrow, with innings concerns for all 3, I wonder if Theo & The Gang are just really confident in their ability to keep pitchers healthy or if they're planning something unorthodox.

I don't want to go through the same thing in another thread, but Mike Montgomery threw 130 innings with a 3.38 ERA last year.

Have SD throw Carter Capps into the ocean and I'm happy.

Those are the only Capps-specific terms I'm comfortable with.

I'd enjoy having him on the Cubs annoying the fans of other teams.

seriously, though, I'd hate to trade Happ for two years of a reliever.

I like the “could close” mention here. I still wouldn’t mind Wade back. Glad it doesn’t seem like we guaranteed him the closer spot.

To be clear, Morrow has by far the best production of any of the options available, so if they can have him around for a similar season as LA did last year, that's a big deal. And I hadn't realized he spent 20 IP at AAA so that's something too. But I do think there's more to Morrow's durability than simply hoping pre-2016 doesn't happen again. He was pretty intensely babied, and since he doesn't have any precedent for his production(even when excluding health), you have to gamble that he won't stay healthy and simply be less productive. Also, and this can be a positive and a negative, but it's hard for me to see him as a guy who is going to close in the regular season given that lack of durability.

Good points I’m guessing the FO/coaching staff have similar thoughts and use ideas. That being said, go bring Wade back and go with super bullpen of death.

Finish signing Morrow and Cobb, trade Happ for Hand, sign your backup C and OF of choice, go home happy.

Wait. Happ for Brad Hand? Straight up? Why?

I think we'll add another guy to compete with him. And honestly, I kind of suspect Wilson will pitch like he did pre-trade to us. Super pen it up, Theo.

Because the Cubs have too many outfielders with last names that start with H, but not enough relievers like that.

The H's aren't so much an issue for next season, but by '19 it will be getting kind of ridiculous.

I’m not a fan of that trade, would rather just spend money on the final bullpen spot. If you’re looking for a Hand type guy I think Liriano is really interesting in that spot as a gamble or else sign one of Reed, Nicasio, or McGee for that final spot who value wise are close to Hand (especially when we have half a dozen other good relief options) and can be had for just money.

Ah! Okay, I can see that. I get it now.

Outside of throwing with the same hand, Liriano really isn't a Hand type.

If we trade with SD, can we please figure out a way to get them to include either Michael Baez or Morejon?

Yes, please.

If it were Hand and one or two good prospects for Happ (plus depending on the quality of the prospects) I'd be good.

You're probably not going to like the "plus" in a Hand/pitching prospect return from the Padres.

why wouldn't the dodgers resign him for this kind of money?

Trying to get below the LT this year? Is that even possible or are they blown by it? They also have a billion pitching options in house already (of varying health and effectiveness).

Depends on the prospect, but yeah. I like the idea of adding prospect pitching with upside at this point for the Cubs. I keep coming back to doing a deal with the Braves. Surplus to surplus match ups can lead to good value for both teams.
